I have a large music archive (2300 albums, 32000 tracks). I could not import in one go as at approx 45% Roon hung up and was not able to import but was searching all the time. I left it for 3 days, no progress. I divided the library by initials of folders, so 22 folders(from A to XYZ) and imported folder by folder. That worked well and I could import all my music via the 22 folders which I added to the library. When I shut down Roon and powered the Roon server (Pink Faun Ultra) off and a day later on, I had to re-add 20 of the folders and also the next day. Is there a limit of the number of folders you can add? Or what do I need to do to prevent that? Help is welcome.
Are you using network storage to access your library or is it on the same machine as server, sounds like its using all its resources. There a number of tickets currently for similar behaviour, that said adding music to Roon is quite processor hungry as on first import it will add all your files, then start a track analysis to determine dynamic range data, and also look up advanced metadata from its sources to match to you files. You can turn off background Analysis in Settings/Library as this can slow it down considerably and let it run overnight at another time. But not much else you can tweak. If its network storage Roon does seem to take longer here.
Also it might be having connection issues to Roon servers another issue that can happen, do you see a metadata improver window pop up or a red triangle top right of UI at all? Sometimes setting DNS to use googles dns of 8.8.8.8 on your router can help here or a restart of the network gear.
If you are seeing the metadata improver triangle , make sure your internet connection is good and restart the server, it is normally due to bad connection at startup
