· Improvements suggested by Roon in a playlist (like "upgrade quality") are not saved.
This is going on for a long time already. However, now I found it time to report this. Roon shows improvements for tracks in a playlist that it has detected like file quality, tracks that were unavailable but found now, and duplicates. If I save the improvements, they disappear from the overview as should. However if I open the playlist later (this is mostly days) all same improvements are shown again to be saved! I did some tests t it by restarting Roon and restarted Roon server as well, but then the improvements were still saved. So it seems that after a while the playlist is reset to the version before the improvements were saved. As far as I know this is not the case for newly added tracks, just improvements of excising tracks.
My Roon version is 2.71, and my server is running Rock (2.71)

Hmmm… I may have an idea what could cause my issue. My current Qobuz playlist is synced dailly by Soundiiz from a Spotify original, since I prefer Spotify to discover new tracks. I should not expect that this would affect quality upgrades, but maybe the Soundiiz algorithm detects the quality change, sees it as a different track and replaces it back to the lower file quality. I disabled the Spotify to Qobuz sync in Soundiiz temporarily to check if the improvement will stay. To be continued…
Thanks for writing this up, and for the testing you did beforehand. The detail that newly added tracks stick while improvements to existing ones come back is a useful distinction, and the kind of thing that saves us a lot of guessing.
Your Soundiiz idea is a sensible line of thought and worth letting run.
Alongside it, could you please apply the improvements once more and save them, then note the exact date, time and your timezone and post them here? With that we can pull the diagnostics from your server and see what happened at that moment rather than working backwards from memory.
Thank you for your remark. Today I checked the same playlist having the Soundiiz sync paused since the my last message. There were 2 improvements (quality) but these were probably new once, since my print screen above showed more improvements. But after that I realised that is very easy to test if Soundiiz plays a role in this by saving the improvements, forcing a sync, and then check again if the improvements show up again in Roon. I did that and got a positive result. So it is almost sure that my issue is caused by the synchronisation. I think this is hard to solve rather than not syncing. This will happen at the end of the year. Since I will start a new one every year.
Thanks for following up, and for running that test @Marco_Demon, forcing a sync and watching the improvements reappear is about as clean a confirmation as we could ask for.
That matches what we’d expect. When Roon applies an improvement, it swaps the link for that entry to the better version of the track. Because your Qobuz playlist is a sync target, each Soundiiz run rewrites its contents from the Spotify source, and the entries come back as the matches Soundiiz picked, the original quality. Roon then re-reads the playlist, sees those entries again, and correctly offers the same improvements. Nothing is being lost on our side; it’s being overwritten a day later. That also explains why added tracks stay and improvements don’t: the additions exist in the source too, but a hi-res swap is invisible to the sync.
You don’t have to give up either half of this, though. The setup that tends to work well is to split the two roles: let Soundiiz sync into a Qobuz playlist you treat purely as an inbox, and keep a separate playlist in Roon as the one you actually listen to and improve. New discoveries still arrive automatically, you move across the ones you want, and because nothing external writes to the Roon playlist the improvements stay put. It’s also worth checking whether Soundiiz can be set to a one-time transfer or an add-only mode rather than a full mirror, that would leave existing entries alone.
Short version: any playlist that’s being mirrored from elsewhere will keep regenerating the same suggestions, so it’s best not to improve that one directly.
