Today I received a promotional popup inside Roon for a Nugs subscription.
When I pay for a premium product, I expect it to function as a tool and not as an advertising surface. The screen and my attention should not become something being monetised.
This shift didn’t start today. A few years ago, unwanted recommendations became a large part of the home screen, taking up space and blurring the distinction between a curated library and a promotional board.
The latest popup feels out of place in a subscription product at this level.
If partnerships are part of Roon’s strategy, then at minimum there should be:
- A clear opt-out for all in-app marketing
- A commitment that paid users can disable promotional interruptions entirely
And while we’re at it, could the home screen be restored as a starting point for the user’s curated library?
Roon’s value proposition has always been focus, depth, and immersion. Promotional popups cut against that identity.
I hope this is reconsidered.
