In the list of Shostakovich's compositions the album is missing

Hello;
please add this album to Shostakovich’s compositions list:

D. Shostakovich, Viola Sonata Op. 147 performed by Friedrich Kleinhapl. Released 01/01/2008 by Ars Produktion
https://tidal.com/browse/album/8107786

Thank you.

The composition as such is definitly in Roon (Qobuz has 61 Versions of it), see attached.

Your problem is very likely that your Tidal album does not get matched properly against the composition. This is a very common and even more annoying issue that Roon so far unfortunately has failed to find an overall and enduring solution for.

But it would certainly be helpful to post a screenprint how this is showing up for you, so support can maybe address this.

Hello bbrip;
yes - you are right this composition in general is in Roon; but I asked Roon to correct they database and add propper Tag to specific performance of this composition: Shostakovich’s Viola Sonata, Op. 147 on album “tidal.com/browse/album/8107786?play=true” played by Friedrich Kleinhapl - especially since it’s a very good performance.
The point is, that in Roon database Tag “composer” for this composition on this album is empty or incorrect.

I know that “composer” Tag in Tidal database for this tune is: “Anonymous” - but what for I have bought Roon subscription? Because of Roon’s incredible database!
Let’s wait it out to see what Roon will do.

The problem here is that the label (Ars Produktion) has never bothered to supply full metadata for this recording. So the composer tag is missing at source. That means that this album in both Tidal and Qobuz has no composer data assigned to the works.

However, if you have added this album to your library, you can then edit the works in Roon to add a credit for Shostakovich as composer. Then these works will be added to the list of Shostakovitch’s compositions in your library.

By doing this, then even if Roon Labs do not get around to adding the composer metadata to this album in their database, you will still have a completed list of compositions in your library.

Hello;
Thank you - I have added Tag “composer” to my library.
But if I want to dig the whole Roon database for something I will be happy to receive as complete list as possible… :wink:

Agreed, but nothing in this life is perfect… :smile:

:smiley:

Hi @Lonek,

It looks like we don’t have a composer credit from our sources on this release, so we aren’t able to properly identify the composition. We are always getting new data and improving things, though, so this could improve in the future!

Hello;
I try to understand your strict formal rules.
But on the other hand - it is obvious that “Viola Sonata Op. 147” on this album is composed by D. Shostakovich. Firstly - “per facta concludentia”. And secondly, Roon’s music specialist can listen an excerpt - to uniquely identify this composition and he’ll confirm that it’s famous last Shostakovich’s piece of music, composed on his deathbed.

Sincerely believe that you can ! :slight_smile:

And why is it obvious? If there is no metadata to tell the import algorithm that this is so, then it’s not going to guess and hope for the best.

Roon’s import process works by using algorithms reading the metadata (amongst other things); it does not use humans as in Amazon’s army of Mechanical Turks.

Dimitri does appear in the Tidal metadata

That album mentioned by the Op is in Roon and it is also allocated to the composer Dmitri Shostakovitch.

The problem is that - as so very often - Roon does not group the parts / tracks of the piece togehter under one composition. Thats the root cause of the issue.

But not in Qobuz’s metadata for this album - I had to add it.

It did for me (once I had added Shostakovitch as the composer to all tracks on this album):

It did so here as well in the end so that was a bad example :sunglasses: But it still doesnt match the composition, so whatever, its in ERROR

My point was merely that Tidal has the composer, even if Roon’s usual sources don’t, and the OP was using Tidal.

I’ve posted sufficient justification - Sorry, but reader need to be able to read discerningly.

By the way - you know that: “…Roon looks at your music and finds photos, bios, reviews, lyrics, and concert dates, and makes connections between artists, composers, performers, conductors, and producers.” - not only with use of automates I think…

Music is among imponderables, so - automates don’t embrace it.

You will find that Roon is good at advertising and promising a lot of things on which it cant quite deliver / live up to…

You are right I’m afraid - but, however, hope springs eternal .
