Describe the issue

CANNOT SEE PLAYLISTS TO ADD TRACKS

When I select a track and choose "Add to playlist," Roon displays a pop-up that gives me two choices: "Recent" and "All."

Both choices display the same 14 playlists in the same order, which appears to be the order in which I have played them, most recent first.

There are three problems with this.

1. "Recent" and "All" should not be the same list, duh.

2. The "All" list should be displayed alphabetically. Otherwise, users have to hunt for a playlist to which they want to add a track (and it would also be redundant with the "Recent" list — see #1). Even better, since users generally build a playlist all-at-once, at least in the beginning, the list should be alphabetical, and the one most recently accessed playlist should also appear at the top. Coincidentally, this is precisely how Apple Music does it.

3. Both options above display 14 playlists — but I have about 50 playlists in my library, all of them clearly listed, in alphabetical order, in the left-hand panel of the Roon window. Roon's functionality doesn't allow dragging songs from the main panel to a playlist, so there's actually no way to add a song to any of the 35 or so playlists that aren't among the 14 displayed when I choose "Add to playlist."

I've restarted Roon Server (it's up-to-date, on a dedicated NUC 8i7) to no benefit. Roon Remote on MacOS and iOS behave the same way.

Not relevant to the problem. The network is working properly.

Hey @phantomtides,

Thanks for taking the time to write in - it’s good to see you on community again!

Can you describe your playlists a bit more - are they all local playlists? Did you import them from a third party like apple music? How did you import your playlists specifically? This KB article may help provide additional information around this process:

If you’re only seeing some of your playlists, have you interacted with all the playlists that are currently visible? This might explain why the same playlists keep appearing. However, it doesn’t yet clarify where your missing playlists might be.

This is a fantastic request - I’d definitely share it over in our Feature Suggestions category to ensure it gets proper attention from the community. :+1:

This is definitely something we’ll want to review a Roon Server diagnostic report with. Are you able to share a handful of the names of playlists that are not showing up? Based on your screenshot, I would guess two could be ‘Elton John’ and ‘Give Me A Few Days’ but please confirm these fit the issue.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :raised_hands:

Thanks for the response, @benjamin.

Okay, you wrote something that I think solved the issue for me — namely, that we can’t add songs to a playlist that was created elsewhere, so those “foreign” playlists don’t show up in “Recent” or “All” because they’re not options.

I haven’t checked every playlist, but enough to assume that’s the correct explanation. It’s a pretty simple issue, and I appreciate your taking the time.

That said, it’s still a bit dopey that “Recent” and “All” are always the same list. It makes no sense that “All” isn’t listed alphabetically, and I’ll create a post in Feature Suggestions to request that change.

Thanks again.
