Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Cannot access nucleus one over windows 11 network to copy music. First I got the User/Password and entered Guest for both. Then I did the group policy editor. First part about Lanman Workstation was done but then I see I do not have SMB client option that is says to do next. Then i tried setting up Roon Nucleus One as a drive and that didn't work either.

You may have to use \\ROCK\Data for the time being. See also:

Can you clarify this? The Help article says for this step:

  1. Disable SMB Signing:
  • Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
  • Locate Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always).
  • Double-click → set to Disabled → OK.

Are you saying that this entry does not exist in your Group Policy editor? What version of Windows 11 do you have?

Thanks for working through this, and thanks Geoff for flagging the version question, that’s an important one.

Rather than keep chasing the exact menu location, could you please try this instead? It works the same way regardless of which Windows 11 edition or version you’re on:

Open the Start menu, search for “Windows PowerShell,” right-click it, and choose “Run as Administrator.” Then please run these two commands, pressing Enter and typing Y to confirm each one:

Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false
Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableInsecureGuestLogons $true

Once that’s done, please open File Explorer and enter this in the address bar (using Guest/Guest if prompted for credentials):

\\NUCLEUSONE\Data\Storage\InternalStorage

Please let us know if that gets you in. And for our records, could you also confirm which exact Windows 11 edition and version you’re running (Home, Pro, etc., and the build)? That’ll help us understand why the Group Policy steps weren’t lining up for you.

After performing those tasks I get a File Explorer notice that “Windows can’t find [filepath above]. Check the spelling and try again.” Win 11 Pro Version 10.0.262.00 Build 26200

Not the Help page but the basic instructions say that after enabling insecure guest logins to:

Still in the Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > SMB Client

  1. Double-click Allow insecure guest logons.

  2. Set the policy to Enabled, then click OK.

Please post the link to the “basic instructions” page - those instructions are wrong and should be corrected.

Oh, in looking at what I was using that IS a Help page. Regardless it still says the same thing.

Note that there was one backslash missing [now corrected] here at the beginning of the line:

Are you sure about that? In at least one of the two cases there should be no device by that name, in the other case access may be not possible because the Windows policies discussed already. I would have expected a differing error message for the two cases - but my expectation might be wrong here. You can also try to use smb://NUCLEUSONE/Data or smb://ROCK/Data.

Note: On Windows sometimes a reboot of the machine works wonders, please try this too as a troubleshooting step.
