Describe the issue

I cannot connect to any services. I have lost all my tags and favorites. This after not being able to log in last week. It is like this: after I signed up for 2 factor authentication, my entire installation of Roon went bad. Please help. See Rebeka. She knows about this.

Hi @Rowan_Crews,

Our diagnostic servers indicate that you have an active RoonServer instance associated with this account, but it’s using a network connection not shared by the other Roon devices and endpoints in your network, which all use a separate network.

The first thing to do is verify RoonServer.exe, RoonAppliance.exe, RoonGoer.exe, and Roon.exe are all added as safe in the Windows Defender firewall and any third-party antivirus or network security software you use.

The next step is to clear the cookies in your default browser, since these can block and interfere with OAuth, Roon’s 2FA mechanism. Also disable content blockers.

Lastly, sign out of Roon on the accounts page in a browser on any machine on your network.

Close RoonServer completely on your Windows machine, then re-open it and launch the graphical component of Roon. Please share the screen that is then visible here by pasting a screenshot,

We’ll proceed from there. Thanks!

Hey @Rowan_Crews,

Thank you very much for submitted a technical support request when you discovered things went missing after regaining access to Roon. I am so sorry this is the case!

I would doubt the issues you are now experiencing are in any way connected with disabling multi-factor authentication (which has to do with your Roon account settings, not your Roon software experience).

However our @support team is responsive. Please, see @connor’s post above.

Conner: some of what you have asked me to do may be beyond my skill level, but I willing to learn and want to resolve this issue because I enjoy Roon so much.
I look in Windows Defender. I could not find roon.goer or roon.server. I found two files named roon.appliance.
When I click on Roon Server on Windows PC, nothing happens.

I want to use Nucleus Plus as my server. Have also installed a server on my PC? I thought I was install a remote.

For what it is worth, before this happened on having my c drive reformated and doing a clean install of my most important software. Is there any way of just starting over with Rooc completely?

Hey @Rowan_Crews,

It does look like you have an instance of Roon Server running on the PC. You can turn this off by accessing your windows taskbar and turning Roon Server off:

After turning off Roon Server on your windows, you can still open the Roon app, which will prompt you to select a Roon Server - this is where you should be able to see your Nucleus available.

What are you having trouble with specifically?

As an easy test with windows firewall, you can also temporarily disable it and see if you’re able to connect to the Nucleus. Let us know the results! :+1:

Benjamin:
My problem is this: I cannot connect with any of the services. I have lost my tags and favorites. According to Conne, my problem is this: "Our diagnostic servers indicate that you have an active RoonServer instance associated with this account, but it’s using a network connection not shared by the other Roon devices and endpoints in your network, which all use a separate network.

The first thing to do is verify RoonServer.exe, RoonAppliance.exe, RoonGoer.exe, and Roon.exe are all added as safe in the Windows Defender firewall and any third-party antivirus or network security software you use.

Benjamin:
I turned off the firewall and I was able to access Nucleus. It was playing now (rather well I might add). The only problem is that I am limited to my own collection of music and want to recover Tidal and Qobuz. My accounts with them are active and Ican log in through my browser.

Problems solved. The key was this diagnostic finding from Conner: “you have an active RoonServer instance associated with this account, but it’s using a network connection not shared by the other Roon devices and endpoints in your network, which all use a separate network”
I remembered that I had assigned a static address to the service, thinking that would cover all endpoints. I returned server to DHCP. I could then access the services, etc. Then I did a restore to regain my tags and favorites.
Thanks to everyone who helped me - Rebeka, Conner, and Benjamin. Roon has excellent and very prompt support.
