· My Roon software won't start up

Describe the issue

I installed and used RoonServer on my Asustor NAS, worked fine for a few months, but now I can't connect to RoonServer, my remotes no longer see it and the Asusttor's web interface (even after reinstallation) is giving me a "this site cannot be reached"

Describe your network setup

KPN Box 12 modem, a couple of Asus routers, Asustor AS6702T NAS

Hi @davidovicbata9,

Thank you for your post. Our diagnostic servers last received a response from a NAS associated with your account about nine hours ago, and the device reported an address on the same subnetwork as your other Roon devices and endpoints.

Can you please clarify the following?

  1. There’s a separate RoonServer installed in your network, hosted on a different machine. Which is your active RoonServer, and were you in the process of migrating between machines? Did you spin up a new server after encountering connection issues on the NAS?

  2. What is the network path serving the NAS, from your main upstream router?

  3. Is there any network security involved that might restrict RoononNAS’s activity?

We’ll watch for your response. In the meantime, please keep a remote online so our servers can gather automatic log reports. Thanks!

Hi Conor,

Thank you for following up. I’ll try to answer your questions, although please note that I’m not that well versed in the topic.

  1. Yes, I do have another RoonServer installed on my PC which I’m not using - only having set it up initially so I could figure out how it works before I installed it on my NAS. After I started having problems with RoonServer on my NAS, I tried using the one on my PC again - (that didn’t work either - couldn’t access my music on the NAS even after I specified the path).
  2. This one I’m not sure I understand, but will try to answer - my modem is connected via utp cable to an Asus router, which is connected to the NAS - is this what you meant?
  3. No security that would affect it
I’ve uninstalled the Roon on my PC too in frustration, but will try reinstalling that

Thank you

Hi @davidovicbata9 ,

Just to confirm, the general NAS control panel is still avaliable at the IP, correct? Can you please confirm the firmware version that your NAS is using? Are you able to see the RoonServer app in the control panel, and is there any change if you try to restart it? If you don’t have anything you wish to preserve, you can try to uninstall and reinstall the Roon app: https://roononnas.org/en/asustor/

Hi Noris,

Yes, the general NAS control panel is still available at the same IP and everything else works. The NAS firmware running is the latest version, the app is visible in the control panel, and regardless of how many times I restart it, the result is the same.
If you check my original message, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Roon app multiple times

Hi @davidovicbata9,

This is a simple test—and my apologies if you’ve already tried this, but can you please reboot all your Roon devices as well as your router/network setup?

Let me know if you’re able to connect after. Thank you!

Hello Benjamin,

I’ve tried this and now I’ve tried it again. I have rebooted all the devices in the chain, the modem, the router, the NAS, even my MiniDSP SHD endpoint.
The result is unchanged - everything works, but I cannot make my NAS my Roon Server, I get the same error message

Hello @davidovicbata9,

Thank you for your patience.

With the release of Asustor ADM 5, a newer version of OpenSSL was introduced that no longer includes a module required for the Roon application to run properly. Currently, the developer of the NAS solution is in contact with Asustor and is actively working on finding a solution.

Please note that we do not have any timeframe for when this issue will be resolved, but we will keep you updated as soon as we have more information.

Hey Vadim,

Thanks for your reply, but I don’t think that was it. I submitted a ticket with Asustor and just got a response which fixed the issue! Posting here as it may help others. Here is what I got:

Please go to Web Center -> Web Server -> configuration to adjust Web Server settings, and run the two apps again.
