Describe the issue

When I search for songs in Chinese (simplified) (using the magnifier) in Roon, I cannot find the track or album or artist unless I type up the full name. For example, if the song name is "失落沙洲", the search returns no result if I type only "失落" or "沙洲"; but the track is found if I type the whole name "失落沙洲". This is obviously not an issue in English as typing in only the key word(s) within the full name of a track/album/artist would still identify the track/album/artist. Is there a fix for this?

Describe your network setup

Home network, using PC as Roon server; Roon also on iphone. Same issue either on PC or iphone

Hello @ronnywoo

Thank you for contacting Roon Support!

To help me troubleshoot, could you clarify:

  • Is the problem occurring when searching your local library or when searching streaming services (TIDAL/Qobuz/KKBOX)?
  • Is this happening for all searches, or only for a specific song, album, or artist?

Hi vadim,

This is happening to my local library, which are mostly FLAC files that I either downloaded or ripped from CDs. The song names and titles are originals from the downloads/CDs.

This happens to most, if not all, of the searches. Those searches that were able to be located without the full word is the rare exception (I cannot recall that happened at all).

Hello @ronnywoo.

It might be helpful to have the file(s) for testing on our end as well, can please upload them here and let us know?

I just uploaded three files for your testing (can provide more if you want). The first one correspond to the screenshot I provided. After replying, I experimented more and noticed the following logic:
Chinese words are typed from left to write, so in terms of typing out each character the track title “失落沙洲” would go in the order 1失 ,2落,3沙 4洲.

On my iphone, when I type in just the 1st, or 1+2 or 1+ 2+3 characters no result came back (see screenshot Phone characters123). But if I type in the wrong typing order, meaning if I type 4, or 3+4 or 2+3+4 then the track is found (see screenshot Phone characters34).

Doing the same thing in my PC roon either way give no result unless I type out all four characters 1234) (see the other PC screenshots)

Hello @ronnywoo,

We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.

You have our apologies for the trouble here, and we’ve greatly appreciated your patience as we continue investigating this tricky issue. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.

Hi there, just wanted to check if there is an update? Thanks again!

Hello @ronnywoo,

I took a look at our internal tracker today, and I can see that your ticket is still in our review queue. This means our team is still planning to look at this, but it has not reached QA’s queue yet.

Once the ticket has been reviewed by the QA team I will let you know. Thanks in advance for your patience!

Thanks a lot for the reply. I just uploaded another Flac file (to your previous upload link) and the reason I uploaded it is that it is a file that cannot be found through the magnifier (search) function in Roon (even if I type in the full name of the track) but it can be located if I go under Artist > Album>Track. May be another data point for the QA team to check. Thanks again!

Hello @ronnywoo,

Thank you for the update.

Regrettably, I wasn’t able to locate the uploaded file on our end. Could you kindly try uploading it again and let us know the file name so we can identify it properly?

Looking forward to your reply!

I uploaded the file just now “徐佳莹 - 到此为止_live.flac” 141.97 MB

Thanks @ronnywoo! We’ve shared the tracks with our team, who will investigate further. We’ll follow up as soon as we hear more information, thank you! :raised_hands:
