What’s happening?

· My Roon software won't start up

Describe the issue

months ago I had trouble with roon 2 on my windows computer and was able to correct with your help. Unfortunately, now a few months later, I am getting the "this device not compatable with Roon 2.0 warning and I cannot open roon untill I quit all instances of Roon server. Please help.

Describe your network setup

Netgear GS308E router, Arris surfboard S33 modem, no switches or range extenders, Thinkstation P3, Linn Klimax DSM. Thank you, David

Hey @David_Pilgrim,

Thanks for the screenshots! To confirm, if you Right-click on your desktop Roon ICON, then click on Properties and see if you’re running in Compatibility mode - disable it if so, and let me know if your issues persist?

I can only get the fatal error now. I can delete roon and start over or I can whipe the computer and start over. This is not my work computer.

Do you mean the “not compatible” error message shown in your earlier screenshot, or do you get another error when you follow @benjamin 's instruction to check for Compatibility mode?

You should have no Compatibility mode set; like this:

I have not been able to get the roon desktop to open. I will try again.

The instructions are not for opening the Roon desktop app - they are for right-clicking on the Roon shortcut icon on the Desktop…

You should have the Roon and Roon Server icons present on your Desktop - like this:

That brings up the incompatibility message.

No - RIGHT-CLICK with your mouse and choose Properties from the menu that displays…

I tried that and the not compatible message popped up. It could be coincidence because it pops up all the time.

I just got a please close all instances of roon message that came and went. I was not aware of any instances of roon.

So you are not seeing a menu of options when you right-click on the Roon shortcut icon on your Desktop? Bizarre.

The Roon shortcut icon comes and goes.

Then there’s something very odd about your Windows system - you should be seeing a menu when you right-click on the Desktop shortcut icon - like this:
