Thank you and we’re very sorry for the delay here. What effect does it have for your Focus filter on the Genre page if you toggle “Use genres from Roon’s metadata database” while keeping your other preferences identical to your screenshot?

A screenshot of the Genre Mappings settings you’ve applied in Settings → Library.
You can likely simply map the Classical Orchestral genre from your local filex to the Orchestral genre which exists in Roon’s genre hierarchy. This will permit the Classical Orchestral focus, when applied to Composers, to include Composers already tagged as Orchestral in Roon’s metadata index above the level of your account.

I did not apply any mapping. It is all the default.
As you suggested, I changed the mapping of my Classical Orchestral to Roon Orchestral. I get in the Composers Focus only 2 composers ! Brahms and Tchaikovsky.
I changed my Classical Keyboard genre mapping to Roon Keyboard, the same 2 composers appear.
Strange.

Wanted to follow up on this and see whether you had a chance to gather the screenshot of the Focus Filter with the Classical genre list expanded, along with the zipped copy of your RoonServer database folder. We also asked about what happens when you choose “Show All Composers” in the Composers browser from the earlier screenshot, since that should help us reproduce the issue more reliably. If you can send those over, we can keep digging from there.

I don’t want to introduce the Classical Genre. I spent many hours fine tuning my library with my own genres and this will make it cumbersome.
I must say that I feel like I’m your lab here with trial & error experiments being asked from me and contradictory messages (read below the thread) sent.
It’s really very simple. Make the Composers page function like the Artist Page. In Artists, my genres function as focus criteria without a problem. Composers should function the same way.

I’m sorry the back-and-forth has felt that way.
To be clear, we are not asking you to restructure your library or adopt Roon’s Classical genres. The genre-mapping suggestion was a diagnostic step to isolate where the breakdown occurs, not a recommendation for how you should organize your collection. Please feel free to revert it in Settings → Library → Genre Mappings, your library shouldn’t have to change to suit our troubleshooting.
Second, on the substance of your request, you’re right that there’s an inconsistency between the two browsers. Artists are library-level objects, so genres you apply locally attach to them. Composers are resolved globally through Compositions, so a genre applied to an album doesn’t roll up to the composer’s own genre field, which is what Focus filters against.
Third, and this is the one thing we’d ask of you: rather than continuing to run tests on your end, the most useful thing you can send is a copy of your Roon database. That lets us load your exact library state here and reproduce the behavior ourselves, including the odd result you saw in your mapping test, where only Brahms and Tchaikovsky appeared. It’s the difference between us guessing from screenshots and being able to hand the developers a concrete repro.
To send it:
- Stop Roon Server (or quit Roon entirely if you’re running it on the same machine).
- Locate your RoonServer folder and compress the whole folder into a .zip.
- Upload it using the link Connor shared above.
- Or, you can create a fresh backup using Roons backup system, and compress+share that backups folder.
The folder contains your database, settings, and metadata edits only, none of your actual music files.
Once we have it, we’ll take the investigation from here and won’t need to send you on any more experiments. Thank you!
