Inconsistent Album Listings in Recent Activity's Played Section (ref#JN9QEB)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

· For some time now, I've noticed a strange phenomenon. Under “Recent Activity” > “Played,” the last 100 albums listened to are normally listed. When a new one is added, the oldest entry at the bottom is deleted. Recently, I've noticed that albums suddenly disappear from somewhere in the middle of the list, seemingly at random, with no apparent pattern. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, a missing album reappears. “Played” seems to have a strange life of its own. In addition, the list is not synchronized reliably; entries are missing and/or sorted differently (Nucleus One > Mac - MacBook - iPhone - iPad; own library + Tidal).

Are these albums from TIDAL? If so, it may be that TIDAL removed that version from their catalogue.

Hello @clicksound,

To figure out exactly why the Nucleus One is struggling to keep this list synced and stable, we need to look at your server’s diagnostic logs. However, because those logs record thousands of background events every hour, we need a specific reference point to search for.

The next time you notice an album disappear (or reappear), or if you can remember a recent occurrence, could you please provide us with the following details?

  • The exact name of the album that vanished or shifted.
  • The approximate date and time you originally played it, or the time you noticed it disappeared.
  • The source of the album (whether it was a local file or a TIDAL stream).

Once you reply with an example and a timestamp, we can pull the logs from your Nucleus One, trace the exact journey of that specific album, and see why the database is struggling to hold onto it.

Wednesday, March 11, from around 7:05 p.m. (GMT+1). Newly played on Mac: Sasha Berliner: Onyx (Tidal). The last entry, Muncie Girls: Fixed Ideals (Local File), remains, but Maggie Rogers: Don’t Forget Me (Tidal) disappears from the middle. Same result on iPhone, iPad, MacBook.

Play Sasha Berliner: Fantôme (Tidal) and everything works correctly. The last entry, Muncie Girls: Fixed Ideals (Local File), disappears.

Play Aaron Goldberg: At the Edge of the World (Local File). Everything works correctly, including synchronization.

Play Jenny Hval: Iris Silver Mist (Local File). The last entry, Ratboys: Printer’s Devil (Tidal), remains, but The Last Dinner Party: From The Pyre (Tidal) disappears from the middle. However, this does not happen on the iPad, iPhone, or MacBook, where the last entry disappears and The Last Dinner Party remains (as it should).

Play Aaron Goldberg: The Now (Local File). The Beths: Straight Line Was A Lie and Hayley Williams: Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (both Tidal) have disappeared. However, this is not the case on the iPad, iPhone, or MacBook, where the lists are correct.

Approximately 9:31 p.m. (GMT+1). I’m playing Muncie Girls: B-Sides The Point (Local File). Suddenly, entries that had already been deleted reappear at the end of the list: Steve Reich: Music for 18 Musicians, Ratboys: Printer’s Devil, Muncie Girls: Fixed Ideals, Brian Eno & Beatie Wolfe: Luminal (all Local Files) + The Beatles (as artist). And there are only 98 entries left. None of this is on the MacBook, iPhone, or iPad, but after restarting the apps, the same problem occurs.

Play Muncie Girls: Fixed Ideals (Local File). Suddenly, there are only 95 entries left in the list.

So it’s quite a jungle, sometimes this way, sometimes that way, and without any discernible pattern. And everything is a bit difficult to document.

Edit: currently only 90 entries left on the list.

Hello @clicksound,

Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you! Thank you so much for taking the time to document these changes so thoroughly—it really does sound like a jungle trying to track those moving entries.

We have successfully gathered your diagnostic logs covering the timestamps you provided. However, because this behavior is so erratic and involves synchronization between multiple remote devices and mixed media sources, our QA team needs to reproduce the issue directly in our testing environment before we can file a formal bug report with the R&D team.

To do this, we will need a copy of your Roon database so we can see exactly what your Nucleus is seeing. Could you please package your most recent Roon database backup into a .zip file and upload it directly to our secure support drive using the link below?

Once uploaded, please let me know. QA will then load your database in-house to recreate the disappearing entries and figure out exactly why the synchronization is failing. Thank you again for your patience and your help with this!

Okay, done.

By the way: there are now only 87 entries left in “Played”. That means 13 have disappeared for one reason or another.

And: I’m a little surprised that apparently no one else is having this problem.

Hey @clicksound,

Thank you for sending over the database. Our QA team is looking into it, and we’ll get back to you once we have more information to share. Thanks in advance for your patience!

Just to keep the topic going

I think maybe not that many count the last played? I know I’ve never done that until seeing this post (listed 82 “items”, so if supposed to be 100 I’m also missing some).

What I did notice yesterday was that one album played just parts of was listed out of order, it was listed after the album I stopped it short to play instead (in Recent activity>played, in queue it’s correct).

No updates on our end @clicksound, we’ll be in touch once our team has had a chance to test things further. Thank you!
