Describe the issue

Other people seem to have had this problem, but they didn’t find a solution as far as I can tell. Hopefully I’m wrong.

My Samsung Galaxy s24+ won’t consistently connect to my Nucleus One. Sometimes it connects if my Dell Precision 3580 is operating as a remote as well, but rarely. The only way it will definitely connect is if I turn the Nucleus One off, then turn it on when the app is running.

Describe your network setup

Dell Precision 3580 connected via wifi; Samsung galaxy s23+ connected via wifi; Nucleuys one connected via ethernet to a synology rt2600ac connected to a motorola arris surfboard sb6141

Hey @Cale,

Thanks for writing in and using the support typeform!

From a recent diagnostic report, we’re seeing repeated failures from your Nucleus around attempts to access numerous upstream services, which points to potential blockage from your router - which may also be the cause of your connection issues between your remote devices.

As a first step, can you review your router settings and see you’re able to prioritize network traffic, or enable QoS (Quality of Service) settings? This is often under Advanced Settings, Bandwidth Control, or QoS Settings.

If not, it may be worth reviewing your Windows 11 firewall settings.

Since you are using a Windows PC, I would verify that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to your Windows firewall.

You can use these instructions to add the exceptions and the executables themselves would be located in your Database Location/Application folder path.

I would also add these exceptions to any Antivirus or other Firewall blocking applications you may have and ensure that you connected to your network via a Private network, not a Public one, see this guide for more information.

Let me know if any of the above help! :+1:

For whatever reason, raatserver.exe appears 8 times, roon.exe appears 4 times, and roonappliance.exe also appears 4 times in the list of allowed apps in Defender Firewall. They are now all checked and set to private. The Roon app now connects, but it may not connect later, as it has been unreliable.

And now it’s stopped connecting.

Hi @Cale,

Is it your intention to retain a RoonServer instance on the Windows machine? We want to clarify whether you’ve migrated permanently to the Nucleus One, since this Windows machine is still active and signed in as a RoonServer instance associated with your account.

Here’s a migration guide if it’s your intention to permanently switch over: https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/migration

Try restricting the Synology RT2600AC to a single WiFi band:

  • Log into your Synology router’s web interface.
  • Navigate to “Wi-Fi Connect > Wireless > Wi-Fi”.
  • Uncheck the “Enable wireless radio” checkbox for the band you want to disable (either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
  • Apply the changes.

For due diligence, we want to clarify the phone(s) involved - you reference both a Samsung S24+ and S23+ in your post, but diagnostics only list the S23+ associated with this account.

Please share a screenshot of the Nucleus Web Admin page. Restarting the device will initiate a discovery cycle, but it’s not something that should be required. We need to determine why the machine isn’t visible to the phone’s Roon instance without a forced discovery process.

Thanks!

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I ran Roon on an old laptop that I have since discarded. I have never used my current Windows machine as the core. I am using my current Windows machine as a remote, but unfortunately Roon Server is also installed on it (I can’t uninstall it), and I suspect that has something to do with why my phone won’t consistently connect to the Nucleus One. The Roon app is confused, or something.

I have already moved much of my music collection to the SSD in the Nucleus One, but I have no idea how to link it to my account as you mention. That article you linked doesn’t mention it.

I accidently typed s24+. I have a Samsung Galaxy s23+.

I changed my router as you instructed. The app still won’t connect.

Hi @Cale,

What happens when you try to delete Roon server from you Windows machine?

It says it’s in use, then after I stop it in the task manager, it disappears from the start menu list of programs. Even when stopped, the Android remote can’t connect.

Hi @Cale,
After you stop it in the task manager go to the folder where Roon is installed (this is most likely C:\Users\[Your user name here]\AppData\Local. Then you can simply delete the folder itself or rename it RoonServer_old. Either method will make Roon Server inactive on that machine. Please try that and let us know if you have any further issues.

So I finally fixed my problem by reinstalling the Roon software on my laptop. I think my problem was that I had set up the Roon server on my laptop, but I didn’t disable the laptop server when I switched to the Nucleus One. You said my laptop was the registered server, so I apologize for doubting you because you were, of course, correct. It looks like the Android Roon remote was indeed confused by have two servers to choose from. Now it has only the Nucleus One and works just fine.

Thanks for your help!
