Indefinite loading animation on Tracks view

Roon Core Machine

I have roon core (2.0 build 1234) installed on a 16 GB M2 MacBook Air running macOS Ventura 13.2.1

Networking Gear & Setup Details

FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable, Wifi

Connected Audio Devices

Nothing special, just headphones

Number of Tracks in Library

Library has around 34000 tracks and is stored on an external 1 TB SSD

Description of Issue

I can use the roon app without problems as long as I don’t open the “Tracks” page. On the Tracks page the loading animation is shown but does not go away and the tracks never loads.

When I switch back to another page, then this page is also broken. The Albums view, for instance, won’t load all the albums anymore.

When I close and re-open the app, I can use all pages again except the Tracks page.

Hey @Gabor,

Thanks for your patience while the support team continues to work through each thread. I also wanted to welcome you to the community! Sorry it’s an issue that prompted your first post, and an odd one at that!

I first want to check the status of your issue, are you still seeing this on the latest build? If so, can you please recreate the issue and share the specific date and time the issue occurs at?

How is this connected to your core device? Do you ever remove it / disable it and reenable it in your watched folders? Does the issue occur if you disable your external drive?

I’ll be on standby for your reply.

Hi Ben, thanks for the reply. The issue still occurs but I made some progress. I have 2 different folders on the SDD that I added to roon and found out that I have the problem with one folder only. When I disable the “problematic” folder and I can see the Tracks view.

But I don’t understand whats causing it. Reading some other peoples posts I got the impression that it might be due to special chars in the folders or files. I did not spot any obvious mistakes though.

Hey @Gabor,

Thanks for the update! If possible, I’d love to see a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Library>Clean up Library

With that, I wasn’t able to pull diagnostics on your core device. It’d be good to grab a copy of your core logs for review. Please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.

It’s certainly odd that the only issue you experience its with the tracks page. Depending how large the problematic folder is, you could take it a step further to test out adding one album at a time back into your account until you run into the issue again.

I’ll be on standby for your reply. :+1:

I fixed the issue, and it was due to special chars it seems. I don’t know which character set this is, but I copied this artist’s name from the bandcamp page and used for the folder and metadata: 𝗫𝗜𝟰𝗡𝗡
After I renamed it to XI4NN everything worked as expected and the tracks page is loading again.
Thanks again. Case closed.
