Indexing stuck at 1/66,348 after migration to Nucleus One (ref#7AMNOY)

Tell us what's going on

· Hello, my Roon installation has started a new indexing process but is stuck at 1/66,348. The spinning indicator is running continuously, and I cannot stop it. I have just migrated from a QNAP to a Nucleus One and restored everything from a backup; otherwise, everything is working perfectly! The indexing process runs constantly; I have even reinstalled the Nucleus operating system software and restarted the server multiple times—but it is always the same result. The monitored music folder contains only music files—no other formats that would need to be excluded. Help...

Hello @Rolf_Kauke

Thank you for reaching Roon support. After the quick review of the diagnostic data, we were able to allocate a high volume of the network-related errors. Let’s start with the DNS adjustment.

Here’s a step-by-step on how to change the DNS settings on your Nucleus:

Open a web browser on a device connected to the same network as your Nucleus.

  1. Enter the IP address of your Nucleus in the address bar.
  • If you don’t know the IP address:
    • Open the Roon app.
    • Go to Settings > Setup > Find Nucleus.
    • Note the IP address shown for the Nucleus.
  • Alternatively, use http://nucleus.local/ (on macOS or Windows with Bonjour installed).
  • Log into the Web Interface:
  1. Once the web page loads, you’ll see the Nucleus web administration interface.
  • Change the DNS Settings:
  • Scroll down to the Networking section.
  • If the Nucleus is using DHCP:
    • Note that you cannot directly edit DNS settings under DHCP. You will need to switch to a static IP to specify custom DNS servers.
  1. Switch to a Static IP:
  • Click on the Configure or Edit option under networking.
  • Enter the current network settings for your Nucleus (IP address, subnet mask, gateway) manually. These can often be found in your router’s settings or your current DHCP lease information.
  • Specify Custom DNS Servers:
    • Add DNS servers in the relevant fields. Common choices:
      • Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
      • Cloudflare DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
      • OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
  • Save and Apply Changes:
  • Click Save or Apply to confirm your new settings.

Restart the Nucleus (make sure Roon Server is stopped) and let me know if you continue to experience stoppages when streaming

Thanx so far, but I have a problem to understand what means this:

What are DNS Servers? Where have I to look for that?

Hello, the error has resolved itself; the spinning icon has disappeared, and the indexing run appears to be complete. Thank you very much!

Hello @Rolf_Kauke,

I am glad to hear that the indexing completed successfully and that the system is now behaving as expected! It sounds like the system was eventually able to clear that initial network hurdle on its own.

Since everything is working, I will go ahead and close this thread. Just for your future reference, should you ever need to adjust those network settings again: the steps I provided earlier require switching the Nucleus from “DHCP” (where the router automatically assigns all network information) to “Static IP” mode within the Web Administration interface. Once in Static mode, the fields for DNS servers become editable, allowing you to manually enter reliable providers like Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8) to help the Nucleus resolve those external server addresses more reliably.

Happy listening!
