Describe the issue

Is the Teac NR-7CD Roon Ready

Describe your network setup

It’s fine. Other Roon devices are ok

No it is not: Roon Ready Devices - Compatible Audio Equipment
But you seem to try and use AirPlay anyway.

Doesn’t make sense while (trying) to use a network protocol like AirPlay. Can you explain please how the unit is actually connected?

Connected to Ethernet

Teac says it’s Roon tested?

Hi @Tom_Harris,

Thank you for checking on this. TEAC was working toward Roon Ready integration for the NR-7CD, but they did not complete certification. We have found that it can often be helpful for manufacturers to hear that there is customer demand for Roon integration with their devices, as that can help move the certification process along.

Thanks for your input. The Teac NR-7 has been discontinued for several years so I’m pretty sure they won’t do anything. It seems my unit is trying to do AirPlay?? But again no audio.

Hello @Tom_Harris,

Thank you for the update. Reviewing the diagnostic data, we can see that the volume level is being sent as 0dB.

Here is the exact line from the log that confirms this: 05/11 15:03:58 [Local 05/11 08:03:58] Trace: [airplay/client] Sending SET_PARAMETER volume 0db

Could you kindly clarify if this is consistent behaviour, or if it only happens after the device wakes up from standby mode, for example?

Additionally, it would be helpful to see exactly how the volume limits are configured for this zone. Could you please share a screenshot of your Settings > Audio > [Gear Icon next to TEAC] > Device Setup menu?

While you are on that Device Setup screen, please click Show advanced and try adjusting a few specific settings to see if we can force the TEAC to register the correct volume level:

  • Toggle the Compatibility Mode switch off and back on.
  • Try changing the Volume control method (for example, switch it from “Device volume” to “Fixed Volume” or vice versa).

Let us know if adjusting those toggles changes the behaviour!

It’s consistent. I’ve included pictures. Switched between fixed column and variable.Volume was tried at high level. No audio

Thanks for the additional info @Tom_Harris, we’ll need our development team to take a closer look at what might be going on under the hood in this case.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already, I would reinstall the latest firmware on the Teac and see if that changes any behavior.

We should have more information to share with you once we discuss your case with development. Thanks for your ongoing patience in the meantime! :folded_hands:

Thank you. It has the latest firmware from the Teac app.

Hello @Tom_Harris

Is the Teac working properly while using AirPlay from your phone or any other device in the network?

I only use Roon.

Hey @Tom_Harris,

Yes, we understand you are using Roon, but does the AirPlay output through Roon work as expected (compared to the Roon Ready output)?

No audio. With volume up

Hello @Tom_Harris,

Thank you for confirming that. To be absolutely sure, could you clarify one quick distinction for us?

When you say “No audio,” are you referring to Roon’s AirPlay output (where you select the AirPlay zone inside the Roon app) or are you referring to using AirPlay directly from a music app on your phone (bypassing Roon entirely)?

The reason we ask is that it helps us isolate where the signal is breaking down:

  • If AirPlay doesn't work from your phone either: This suggests the issue is either with the Teac's network connectivity, its internal AirPlay module, or a potential firewall block on your network.
  • If AirPlay works fine from your phone, but fails in Roon: This confirms the issue is specifically within how Roon communicates with the device, and we can narrow our investigation to the Roon protocol and its handshake with the Teac.
If you have a moment, could you try playing a song directly from your phone's Music app using AirPlay to the Teac? It would be a huge help in narrowing this down for our development team.

I will. Out of town for a week.

Hello @Tom_Harris

Please keep us posted with any progress.

Hello @Tom_Harris,

Just checking in on this. Were you able to try the steps we mentioned and see if there’s been any change on your end? If anything is still hanging up, let us know what you’re seeing and we’ll pick it up from there, thanks.
