Insanely Skipping tracks and artists

Even creating a post here is complicated!
Sorry if this is somehow wrong or not in the correct place. I work with complicated IT solutions, but Roon seems to be me downfall.
Frustrated after spending hours trying to solve this and getting nowhere.
I have several lists, albums, artist that either can’t be played or Roon is skipping tracks in the wild.
Very simpel network setup: straight into a switch connected to a wall socket. 1000 mbit fiber and running Roon on Windows 11, I7, 16 gb RAM.
Hardware: Primare SC15 into Audiolab 7000A.
Nothing complicated and still this is so buggy and it feels like an alpha version software version. Luckily I only paid 10 USD for a trial.
I was hoping for Roon. The idea is great, but paying that amount of money for something this buggy? Serious?
Back to the trusty but very boring Primare app.

Would love to upload a video here … but that is not possible.

Welcome to the forum! I’m just another user, no official support…
First question: is the machine on which you are running Roon Server hard wired? This important. A wifi connection is not recommended.
Second question: is Roon still busy importing/indexing/scanning a large number of local files? This process can consume a lot of computer power.

Turn these settings to off or throttled for a while, and see if this changes anything:

Hi Arlen.
Thank you for replying.
Everything is hardwired. No WiFi at all when it comes to HI-FI. Indexing is long done. Not that big a library as I did not yet connect my NAS drive with my ripped CD collection. I only did connect an USB drive with purchased music and indexing is long done.
Streaming from both Quboz and Tidal. Same with both services. Skipping or completely giving up playing a playlist or an artist.
So much promise and so much frustration.
I have a hard time understanding the business idea here: create an expensive solution on a brilliant idea and then execute so poorly.
From reading through the forums … lots and lots of issues with hardware, network and software leave me to the conclusion: If you have luck and get a good setup then you’re golden. If not … spend hours on reverse engineering or buy some more expensive Roon hardware.
Maybe Roon simply dislikes David Sylvian :man_shrugging:t2::sweat_smile:

I think you should give the Support team a chance to examine the logs from your setup. From your post you seem to have a solid setup, so these issues should not be occurring. Unfortunately, we’re now in the weekend, so it won’t be until next week before they will have a chance to respond.

I think Geoff Coupe has a valid point here. It’s probably an issue that will be recognized from the logs.

Reading your post it seems that your using a wallsocket for you lan. If this is EoP What happens if you directly connect your server and endpoint to you router?

Ethernet Over Power (EoP)

The quality of Ethernet Over Power solutions varies quite a bit, and generally it will be less reliable than Ethernet. There are times it can work well, but if you’re having a problem and powerline ethernet is involved, we recommend temporarily replacing the ethernet over power connection with a real ethernet cable to see if things improve.

From this site

No PoE or anything else. Just a normal RJ45 cat 6 network wall socket.
No skipping if I use ARC, so the problem is either with server software, Primare or roon client.

Have a quick search of this forum for “Primare SC-15”

See what comes up.

Hi @Jan_Eversby ,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your patience while we had a chance to reach your case. I activated diagnostics for your account and what this does is upload a log set for review to our servers. Looking over the log, I noticed a few things:

  1. It looks like Roon kept trying to mount \JAN-AIRPORT-TIM\BackupDataSammi over and over in the older logs, it appearst o haver subsided in the newer logs though.

  2. There does appear to be successful playback at times, but when the issue occurs, it looks like it is due to the Primarie displaying a “RAAT__OUTPUT_PLUGIN_STATUS_FORMAT_NOT_SUPPORTED”,“status”:“UnexpectedError” message, even though it is trying to play 16/44 standard content. In fact, the only time that the playback issues are happening are for 16/44 content, while higher sample rates appear to play as expected.

Does this appear to be consistant with the behavior you are experiencing on your end? If you try to play higher sample rates, or use MUSE to upsample all content to non 16/44, does playback work as expected?

Hi Norris.
Thank you for getting back to me.
To respond:

  1. By fault I had an old airport device that I was examining added. When I discovered that I immediately removed it as there’s nothing of interest on that network drive.
  2. That is kind of weird that Primare do not handle some 16/44 files. It is not consistent. Sometimes 16/44 files are played with no issues.
  3. I’ll try to set Muse to upsamle content to see if this solves the issue. Thank you. :pray:t3:
I think I’ll create a dedicated Roon server. I really like the algorithms and the ability to mix and match content.

Certainly let us know how the above goes @Jan_Eversby, we’ll be monitoring for your reply and results.

Having a stand-alone, dedicated machine to run as your Roon Server is always an excellent choice in our opinion!

Hi @Jan_Eversby,

We wanted to reach out to see how things were performing before this thread auto-closes for inactivity. Have you made the aforementioned changes to your Roon environment, and have they relieved any of the interruptions?

We’ll watch for your response - let us know how we can help! Thanks!

Hi Connor.
Thank you for reaching out. I did the “Headroom management” and “sample rate conversion” in Muse and the glitches stopped. A bit peculiar but as long as this works I am more than happy
Best regards,
Jan
