I just wondered if other users have ‘discovered’ any interesting insights and/or reinforcement of their understanding of how their musical taste has developed by using Roon?
For example, the distrubution on the Album>Release Date Focus chart shows my interest in music increasing in my teens from the mid 1980s, with peaks and troughs that reflect life events - being a single dad, studying…
At the start with most of my listening was Heavy Metal, with a decreasing interest in new releases (I’ve made Heavy Metal a top level genre anyway, but any subgenres can be selected from the Genre Focus):
My interest in Classical seems to have peaked when I brought my first decent Hi-Fi system in mid 2010s (ignore the 2025 peak when I went on a Classical adding spree, which I still have to sort through..!):
Of course, the any insight is subject to how we add albums to our library - developing a collection of the most popular examples of a genre (rather than, or in addition to, our favourites) might only show when the popularity of a genre itself was at its height. For instance, Punk/New Wave:
I’ve recently installed Roon on a new PC, so don’t have much of a play history - but adding the Played>All Time to a Genre/Release Date Focus will be an interesting comparsion once I have a few years worth of plays.
