I’m troubleshooting a Roon Remote issue on one Samsung Android phone S24 ULTRA, and I’ve isolated most of the network side already.
Current setup:
Roon Core / ROCK at 192.168.10.31 PC on the same network connects to the Core normally Another mobile phone on the same Wi-Fi also connects normally Roon ARC is now working after fixing port forwarding manually on the router
Problem:
On my main Samsung phone S24 ULTRA, Roon Remote is unstable The phone can open http://192.168.10.31 in the browser Sometimes Roon finds the Core on first launch After closing and reopening the app, it often no longer finds the Core The issue is specific to this phone
Already tested:
Reinstalled Roon Cleared cache / app data Restarted phone Reset Wi-Fi / Bluetooth settings Removed WireGuard Removed Proton VPN Verified same subnet / same Wi-Fi Verified Core is reachable by IP from the phone
Since the Core is reachable, another phone works, and ARC works, this looks like an Android-specific Roon Remote reconnect/discovery issue on this Samsung device.
Could you advise the next diagnostic steps or check if there is a known issue with Samsung Android devices in this scenario?
Thank you for providing those details. Since the server is reachable via browser and other devices are working fine, this is almost certainly being caused by Samsung’s aggressive background management in One UI, which can kill Roon’s discovery process to save power.
On the Samsung S24 Ultra, please try these specific steps to make sure Roon is not being put to sleep:
1. Set Roon to “Unrestricted”
This prevents the system from limiting the app’s network activity in the background.
Go to Settings > Apps > Roon.
Tap Battery.
Select Unrestricted, which is likely set to "Optimized" by default.
2. Add Roon to "Never Auto-Sleeping Apps"
This is a Samsung-specific feature that overrides general Android settings.
Go to Settings > Battery > Background usage limits.
Check whether Roon is in the "Deep sleeping apps" list. If it is, remove it.
Tap Never auto-sleeping apps.
Tap the (+) icon and add Roon to this list.
3. Check "Nearby Devices" permission
Android 14 requires explicit permission for local discovery.
Go to Settings > Apps > Roon > Permissions.
Make sure Nearby devices is set to Allow.
4. Technical note on discovery
If the issue persists after these changes, it means the UDP multicast Roon uses to find the server is still being filtered. When the app fails to connect, please try clicking “Choose a different server” or “Help”, then enter your server’s IP address manually: 192.168.10.31.
Setting the app to Unrestricted and adding it to the Never auto-sleeping list usually solves the disappearing server issue on flagship Samsung devices. Please let us know if this stabilizes the connection.
Glad to hear that helped. Setting Roon to Unrestricted and adding it to Samsung’s Never auto-sleeping apps list appears to have made a real difference on your S24 Ultra. I’ll go ahead and mark your thread for closure, happy listening!
