Intermittent Connectivity Issues and Access Problems with Roon Nucleus Plus (ref#7NWWNM)

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

Hi,
I have been having a lot of trouble with my Roon Nucleus Plus.
It works sometimes and not others. Last week I was listening and it stopped. My system is not able to find the Nucleus and through trial and error Roon is back on my desktop computer playing at a fraction of the sound the Nucleus is capable of. Arc hasn't worked for months, none of my Roon remotes work, tried different laptops trying to find nucleus, nothing at all. It has been acting strange for some time, sometimes I have to reboot Nucleus to get it to work, sometimes any android roon remote works, but only if I am using my PC remote to start listening, other times only PC remote works, other times nothing works and now nothing works at all and Roon Core is back on my PC and I don't know how I did that, I can't access the roon core to check configuration, it just will not open. The Roon remotes do not work with Roon core on PC. I have had troubles all along if I don't use it everyday, the system seems to hibernate and I have a hell of a time waking it up. The question asked in this request do not apply if I can only click one response, the system is doing and not doing the same things at the same time.

I can't tell if it is even working or not, it could have died and I can't tell.
Will someone please contact me regarding this. The online forums are a waste of time as they do not address my situation.

I have a Devialet 440 expert pro

Roon Nucleus

I stream all music Tidal to Roon by means of a modem supplied by Telus
All the components are on one network on a 300mps down and up ethernet connection.

Best regards,
Don Bradley

Describe your network setup

Optical connection, modem is a Telus Wi-Fi hub with 300 mps up and down, one modem only hard wired from modem to Nucleus and Devialet 440 and PC when used as a remote, that is all that I have connected to the system, all hard wired. I have two separate ethernet cables to this location and have tried both lines in case there was a break in one, nothing seems to work, but the optical service and wi-fi works for every other device, 3 laptops, 3 androids phones, tv, video security etc.

Where is your music stored? How much of it is local vs streaming?

We stream everything, no stored files, tidal to Roon, really simple. All streamed.

Random chance last night that I tried to listen to Roon, it started up, remotes found, played for 45 minutes and stopped, it has disappeared again,
192.168.0.141 (unable to reboot system, please try manually powering off)
Did that, not nothing exists. (this site cannot be reached 192.168.0.141 took too long to respond)

As Pink Floyd once asked “is there anybody out there”?

Hey Roon, anybody out there?

Hi @don_bradley,

Diagnostics indicate you have two active RoonServers in the same network environment. A Roon license only allows for one active database, so you’ll need to reauthorize the RoonServer on your Windows computer. * Navigate to your Roon Database Location and rename to the folder RoonServer to something else.

Download Roon Remote from our Downloads Page and select the Nucleus.

Logging shows repeating network failures with upstream requests on this network, including forced closures due to external software. What this means is that something in the network environment, either on Roon Remote or in the router firmware, is policing RoonServer’s access to the network. I recommend verifying you’ve added Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe as exceptions to the Windows Defender firewall in your Windows system settings on any Windows remotes you’re using.

Additionally, verify that the DNS server assigned in your router settings is a known, reliable server. We recommend Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).

Hey Connor,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Ummm what the heck are you talking about?. What is a DNS server, what is Cloudflare1.1.1.1?
I have one license and one roonserver, there is no two, it’s either on my PC which is a roon remote or it’s in the Nucleus.
The Roon core has ended up on my Pc and in the database location there is no Nucleus, there is only this pc, and sometimes a screen will show asking if I made a mistake and only wanted to us the PC as a remote and instructed to GO Back and when I do, only the PC is shown as an option, there is no Roon Nucleus option.

Last night I tried and connected and it was the nucleus as I have it as USB on my Devialet,
When it is on the PC Devialet has to be set on Devialet Air, I didn’t even think that worked.

Either way, the system operates for 45 minutes or so and then disappears.

I truly have no idea what you are talking about with DNS server or cloudflare and I have no idea how to tell if my window defender allows Roon exe or RAAT server, it was working, now it’s not working and this has been an ongoing issue for years, when it works it sure sounds great, when it doesn’t it’s a real pissoff, frustrating and seems unnecessary as this should be plug and play, I’m not a tech guy, I’m a carpenter, retired brewmaster, home builder, not a tech guy.

Thanks Conner but WTH am I to do with this,
Don

There is no Roon Remote for PC on your that page, tried this many times already, only for phones and tablets, not desktops, Bottom of page is All Roon Downloads there is a rooninstalller 64, is that what you are referring to??? If you could be more specific, pretend I have no idea what you are talking about and start from there, you are used to your job, I can build a house and run a brewery and I wouldn’t expect you to know what i know, I;m not being smart, just practical.

I have done the first part and opened roon after giving authorization to defender and upon opening, I get the same old, Waiting for Roon and it all stops there.

I have rebooted the system and the modem and all I get is Waiting for your Roon Server
I don’t know what you mean regarding DNS and cloudflare so I have not done anything with that.
Because I don’t know what that is.

Your computer runs two Roon programs, Roon server and Roon client. So, you have two Roon servers, your PC and your Nucleus.

You need to authorize the Roon server you want to use and unauthorized the other one.

I can’t find the nucleus and I can’t find Roon on my PC nothing works, there are no options to do anything, there is no screen to work with, roon doesn’t open on pc and the nucleus doesn’t exist as far as I can tell and I’ve been looking

Sounds like you may be in over your head with this computer stuff, which Roon is. Do you have a friend or neighbor who is computer knowledgeable that can help you? If not, is there a computer shop close by that might could come over and help get you set up properly?

We have been with Roon since the beginning, added the Nucleus to the system, things seemed to work, but over the years either I’ve gotten old and slow and missed the change in things, or somethings just got really complicated. Don’t know why this has gone sideways.
Most definitely will have to call in someone, or just give up. Learn to play the guitar or something.
Thanks for taking the time, appreciated.

Don’t give up. Roon Support or some other customers may be able to walk you through it here. If not, find someone that can help you.

This means that @connor wants you to go into your Windows network settings and change the Domain Name System server you are using from what ever it is right now to 1.1.1.1

I have no idea how to go into Windows network and change the domain name system.

If Conner or someone else could give a step by step on this, that would be appreciated.

I have two pending responses, awaiting approval that provide more details as to what has been happening to my system, but the have been awaiting approval for over 14 hours now, I don’t know why they are awaiting, anyone have any ideas ???

There was a link in my post to you that had the step-by-step instructions. Let me know if you have problems accessing that link!

It’s because the Roon Labs support team is small (four people) and they are dealing with support requests from many more people. Please have patience.
