Intermittent crashes of ROCK every few days (ref#NWL0VD)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Rock will crash every few days

Tell us about your home network

· Simple ethernet with non mesh router

I have swapped between two supported nucs, reinstalled on new m.2 ssd, increased ram to 16g. It will hang up every few days.

Hello @John_Williams1,

I am really sorry you are dealing with these intermittent crashes.

I want to reassure you that you can definitely rule out memory exhaustion as the culprit here. Our team has been actively working on optimizing Roon’s resource footprint under the hood. Prior to the latest updates, your server’s peak RAM consumption was hovering around 4GB. After the update to version 2.64, that peak consumption has dropped down to roughly 2GB.

With 16GB of RAM currently installed, your ROCK has more than enough breathing room. If the system is hanging, it is absolutely not because it is running out of memory.

To help us catch the exact moment things go wrong, could you please keep an eye on the server and reply here with the exact date and time (a precise timestamp) the very next time it hangs?

Once we have that specific window, we can dive deeper into the trace logs leading right up to the freeze to see exactly what process is causing the lockup!

I just reset my nuc last night and installed the latest update. Will let you know when it happens again.

Hey @John_Williams1,

Since a few days have passed, I wanted to check in and see how things are performing. We’ll be waiting for your reply! :folded_hands:

Things seem to be better since the latest update. No crashes thus far. Thanks for checking in about this.
