Describe the issue

I recently updated to Build 140 - since that time I am having intermittent High frequency cacophony. It seems worse when Streaming from Qobuz or Tidal or switching between albums in a playlist. I tried disabling MUSE equalization and it appeared to stop the problem. I have made no other changes in my system in almost a year and it worked fine with MUSE enabled.

Describe your network setup

I am network connected via Ethernet to a Lumin T3 with both connected to the same Netgear 4 port switch.

Hello @George_Walsh ,

Is there any change in behavior if you use Sample Rate Conversion to upsample all content to the same PCM rate?

We are investigating an issue related to this that impacts TIDAL content. Can you please check your Roon Settings → Services → TIDAL → Edit and see if there’s any change in behavior if you try to set Streaming Quality to the highest setting you have available?

Noris,

I checked streaming from Tidal & Qobuz more carefully.

I found that it was only Tidal that was failing.

Apparently when you select Qobuz as the preferred streaming site it even takes Tidal material already in your Library and replaces it with Qobuz if available on the Qobuz site. I thought when I selected a Tidal album it was testing Tidal.

I checked the settings for Tidal and was surprised to find it set to LOW.

I checked my subscription on Tidal and it was set to 192/24 !

I logged out of Tidal on ROON and relogged in and now it allowed me to set it to MAX which I did.

Since making that change Tidal streaming is working well.

Before that change when I started a Tidal album it would look like it was starting but it would either make a noise or not play the audio & not allow you to start & stop the audio. Several times I had to reboot after trying Tidal.

On the High Frequency screeching problem ( which I think is different than the Tidal failure ) :

I’ll try setting upsampling and see if it fails. With MUSE EQ off I made a playlist with material that switched between all the avail rates with no failures.

Thanks so much for your help !

George

I recall another user recently has a similar report as yours. LOW quality definitely is a problem.

You need to be streaming FLAC, otherwise it’s a configuration problem that needs to be resolved.

Hopefully this problem will disappear after you avoided LOW quality (AAC codec).
