I have a Roon Nucleus Titan with a relatively small library running OS version 2.0 build 1470. The device worked flawlessly for the first 6 months but recently (within last 3-4 weeks) I am getting continuous timeouts where the IOS app will say “waiting for Roon server”. Sometimes it recovers and other times I need to reselect the Roon device and start again. This occurs ~every 1-2 minutes so it is intrusive. It does not appear to disrupt music I am playing at the time of that helps.
My network is robust running Cisco switches and has been stable for as far as I can remember. I am not experiencing intermittent disconnects on any other client server type apps at this time.
One change I can report is upgrading my iPhone to the iPhone 16 running IOS 18.1 during the same timeframe. I also connect confirm this issue started after a specific Roon software upgrade.
There is not much troubleshooting I can do on my end other than restarting the Titan unit a few times and rebooted the Cisco switch it resides on and restarting the iPhone.
I know this does not give anyone much to help troubleshoot with me but I decided to submit a post to see if anyone else is experiencing anything similar. If so please let me know.
Sounds to me the problem is not the Roon Nucleus Titan, but your Roon client device. I would reboot your router, Titan, and Roon client. If it continues, maybe reinstall Roon on your Roon client device.
Update. I did another test on an older iPAD with IOS 17 (ie not upgraded) and the “waiting for Roon Server” is still occurring. So this pretty much rules out the actual iPhone being the problem.
Also to note after the waiting for Roon server message stays on the screen for about 30 secs I sometimes get an “Oops something went wrong please select another Roon server” but once the messages disappears it usually recovers back to where I left off.
I’d also review your network connection as well - can you temporarily setup a simplified connection with your Nucleus directly connected to your primary router, and see if the same issue occurs?
Can you confirm you’re only running a single subnet within your local network as well?
Lastly, if you could reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time, and name of track playing when the issue occurs, we’ll enable diagnostics for your Nucleus to take a closer look.
My network how two subnets one for wireless and one for LAN connections but is all part of one broadcast domain.
Yes all my IOS apps are the same version (current)
I’ve connected directly to the router and still getting the waiting message
The waiting for your Roon Server message appears even when the app is opened and I am not doing anything. So it is not dependent on playing a particular song etc.
Can you share a screenshot of your router settings - device list to confirm this?
A specific timestamp would still be helpful! And with that, if you could, please also use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon logs from your iPad to our File Uploader?
Solution found. A firmware release updated my wireless access points automatically that I was not aware of until I started digging into the timing of the Roon issue. Though it is unknown what exactly what in the firmware caused the Roon client/server disconnects and delays, reverting back to the previous firmware release has resolved the problem 100%.
I am using the SonicWall suite of products including their WAP’s wireless access points.
Thanks for everyone’s responses and suggestions and willing to help troubleshoot.
