I have a pair of KEF LSX IIs connected to my 2023 M2 Mac mini, which is acting as a Roon remote. From time to time, all the Mac connections simply drop off from Roon. Sometimes I need to restart the Mac mini, and that brings it back. Other times, I have to restart Roon, and that bring it back. Sometimes, none of these steps help! It's important to note that the Mac sees and recognized that it is USB connected to the KEFs, but Roon doesn't see the speakers any longer. What could be going on here and how I fix this issue.
Describe your network setup
Starlink Internet and eero mesh network. The Roon core is connected to the router via ethernet.
When this occurs, if you navigate to the Settings → Audio page in Roon, do you notice that other Zones disappear as well?
What about the Zones listed under “This Mac,” like the System Output (Mac speakers)?
What you’re describing sounds suspiciously like a RAATServer crash, or a temporary disruption and reconnection in the handshake between RAATServer and the Mac’s coreaudio daemon.
When you’re stuck in this condition, what happens if you navigate in the Mac to the Applications → Utilities → Terminal app and then enter: sudo killall coreaudiod? This will shut down and restart the audio daemon on the Mac - when it restarts it should automatically connect with Roon.
I finally had an instance where audio endpoints became disconnected. I performed what you asked me to do in Terminal, but it did not restore the connections to the various endpoints.
Could you please provide more specific info, like the track name, date, and time when you experienced the issue? This will help speed up the process of reviewing a Roon Server diagnostic report. Thank you!
