Describe the issue

:Occasional pink noise/static when changing tracks (AIFF) - Resync Delay issue?

Recently, I have been converting some of my frequently listened to FLAC files into uncompressed AIFF. However, since doing this, I’ve had two instances where I manually skipped to a new song, and instead of the music playing, I got a loud blast of pink noise/static.

If I stop the track and hit play again, or skip to another track and come back, it plays perfectly normal.

After the first time it happened, I suspected a DAC sync issue, so I went into the device setup and added a 500ms Resync Delay. Unfortunately, it happened again a few days later, so I have now increased the Resync Delay to 1000ms.

I am using Grimm MU2 as Roon Core, endpoint, and DAC.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Describe your network setup

ISP / internet service ↓ Fiber line into home ↓ ISP modem / ONT ↓ Router ↓ Generic FMC / network-side fiber converter ↓ Fiber ↓ exD konNET-o ↓ Nordost QNet switch ↓ Network Acoustics Muon Pro filter ↓ Grimm MU2

This question is best directed at your DAC vendor, in your case Grimm,
Historically, i have had similar experience, and in those situations it was due to incompatibility with embedded metadata in my AIFF files, that my transport/streamer was treating as binary music data.

Hi @Billy_Li,

Thank you for your post. This is likely downstream of Roon as @Mikael_Ollars mentioned above, but we can take a close look to confirm.

Are you able to provide the following for us to pinpoint an example of what you’re describing in logs?

  1. The names of two tracks that exhibit the issue during transition (or an approximate timestamp of the track transition)

  2. A screenshot of the Signal Path in Roon

We’ll watch for your reply.
