Describe the issue

System: ZenMini Mk3 as roon core (latest software, roon 2.0+), NAD M66, iPhone w. Roon App. Library comprised mostly of albums from Tidal. Tidal service active in Roon. NAD M66 and ZenMini are hardwired to 1GBPS network, iphone connected though wifi on the same network averaging 450mbps throughput.

When using my iphone w. roon app to play music on roon ready NAD M66 streamer, I shuffle my library.

At times, playback is flawless with little-to-no delay, but then tracks will fail to play as if there is an issue communicating with Tidal.

This does not seem related to specific tracks or albums because when the connection appears severed, no tracks play, but when it's restored, all tracks play.

Using the tidal app on the same iphone, logged in with the same credentials, on the same network presents no issues whatsoever and all tracks load instantly (hundreds tested).

Using the roon arc app on the same iphone, logged in with the same credentials, on the same network presents no issues whatsover and all tracks load instantly (hundreds tested).

iphone apps and roon core all updated to latest version.

This seems to be recent issue.
No network changes have been made.

Describe your network setup

Unifi UDM Pro, Unifi WAP. NAD M66 and Zen Mini hardwired to 1GBPS network. iPhone on wifi and gets 450+ mbps down at all times. No recent network changes have been made.

Hello @jbmm_anon ,

Welcome to the forum!

Can you please let us know the exact local time + date + track when you next observe this behavior (e.g. Issue occurred when playing Hotel California at (9:31AM on 1/7/25). We’ll enable logging to see if there are further clues.

When the issue happens, do other zones other than the M66 still work as expected?

Sure. The issue just occurred at 19:07:30 UTC.

Artist: Wombo
Track: Snakey
Album: Fairy Rust & Selected Demos.

It’s worth mentioning that this issues persists, regardless of the album.

I’ve also created a screen recording of this same album being played through the roon app, the tidal app and then the roon arc app.

You’ll notice that the latency only exists within the roon app.

Thanks.

The issue seemed to have resolved itself.
I tested by shuffling my library within the roon app and then skipping through 50 songs.

There was almost no latency at all and each track played within about one second.

I also created a new Zone and repeated the test with similar results.

Any ideas as to what causes this intermittent latency from the Roon app only?

Hi @jbmm_anon,
We’re glad that you are no longer having any playback issues. Logs from the timestamp that you supplied us with show bandwidth dropping to zero during playback.

It’s possible that something else on your network took up the bandwidth.

Thank you for monitoring the logs.

This seems to suggest some sort of bandwidth/connectivity issue between the Router and the M66 through the hardwired ethernet connection. Either the port is having issues or the network card in the M66 is.

The Tidal app and Roon arc app were playing music over wifi, outputted to the iphone.

I’ll continue to monitor the situation and use a new zone to test further if the issue pops up again.

Thank you.
