Describe the issue

I live in Canada. Some days Qobuz works perfectly and the next day it drops out consistently. I can only assume the issue is related to the external internet and Qobuz. 95% of the time it drops out within the first 1 second of a new song. If I resume play the song plays fine. This must provide a significant clue to the Roon software team to adjust a timer prior to giving up!!! This is my number one issue with Roon. PLEASE Take a look and fix / provide a more fault tolerant recovery ( even if there is a pause) &/or provide better error messages to get to the bottom of the issue. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
I have since upgraded to a MacMini M4 with 24G of Ram and no improvement. Further I have streamed over 24 hours with Apple Music and Qobuz apps with not a single drop out so I conclude it is a Roon timing/buffering issue. I don’t mind a pause in the music but I am not interested in manually restarting the Roon Play button every time this happens. PLEASE LOOK INTO THE ISSUE. I am not the only frustrated Roon customer running Qobuz.

Describe your network setup

300mb internet connection. Ping can vary to several hundred ms. Roon core is direct ethernet. A mixture of wifi and ethernet endpoints. Again drop outs always occur at the first second of playback of a new song. After restarting playback continues perfectly for the rest of the song.

I notice that the native Qobuz desktop app defaults to a 30 Gig buffer as the default for playback. Seems excessive but it does indicate they may have an issue with excessive response times. Food for thought.

Hey @Drew_Wilson,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your report! We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, and observed a handful of network failures in relation to upstream services including Qobuz, but also Tidal and general failures with metadata and images. A few examples can be found below:

Warn: [Broker:Transport] [broker/images] unexpected error GET'ing https://imagecache.roonlabs.net/im/1/albums/c80030303037353032313332323332/cover/500.jpg: statuscode=999 error=System.Net.WebException: Network is unreachable
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (51): Network is unreachable

And

Warn: [Broker:Media] [qobuz] [http] error result from http request: System.Net.WebException: Network is unreachable

As well as:

Debug: [Broker:Media] [tidal] network reachability changed. refreshing token
Debug: [Broker:Media] [kkbox] network reachability changed. refreshing token

Can you provide more specific details around your network setup, and how your server machine is connected to your router? Can you setup a direct connection bypassing all other network gear?

What is your router make and model? I would investigate any options to allocate network priority to your Roon Server machine as well.

Perhaps testing different DNS servers on the Mac may be helpful as well. We have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?

We’ll be on standby for your reply, thank you! :raised_hands:

Hi Benjamin

The Roon Core is connected directly to the Rogers ( Canadian Provider) Xfinity 300mb Hitron Cable Modem vie ethernet. There is no router between the Core and the modem. I am surprised about the Tidal error ( Are your error logs not time stamped?) as I have not had a Tidal account for 4-5 years.

I was able to get into the Hitron Modem and see the DNS server address but it appears that Rogers blocks the ability to edit the values. Is there any advantage in editing the DNS server address on the MacMini Roon Core? This seems to be my only option.

Tx
Drew

Hi @Drew_Wilson,

Setting it this way would work just fine. Setting the DNS on the MacMini would just mean that only the MacMini would be affected. Which may in fact be what you want.

Tx Daniel. I have updated the MacMini with Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and will know in a few days if this is an improvement. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Drew
