Describe the issue
For the past week, it takes forever to load songs through tidal - sometimes over a minute to play a song or make a search. I’ve tried resetting and restarting multiple times, but nothing seems to work consistently. It will get better then worse again. Any help?
Thank you for contacting Roon Support, and we appreciate the detailed information you’ve provided.
We’ve reviewed the diagnostic logs from your system and found that all requests to TIDAL are completing in under a second. This suggests there’s no issue with Roon’s connection to the TIDAL service itself.
The delays you’re experiencing are more likely related to the connection between your client device (the one you use to control Roon) and your Roon Core (hosted on your Nucleus). To investigate further, could you please confirm the following:
What device are you using as the Roon client (e.g., iPhone, iPad, Windows PC, Mac), and how is it connected to the network (e.g., Wifi or Ethernet)?
When you next experience the issue, particularly long delays when searching or playing a song, please note the exact time it occurs and let us know, so we can check the logs around that event.
Once we have this information, we’ll be better positioned to pinpoint the root cause.
To confirm, do you see this delay no matter the Roon remote device you use? It may be worth testing out changing the DNS server within your setup.
We have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?
This thread will close for inactivity, but changing the DNS server on the network (usually in the router administration settings page) most commonly resolves slow loading when it appears suddenly. The router might be struggling to resolve the URL addresses associated with Tidal images and tracks. Setting a reliable server ensures these requests aren’t retried, preventing connection latency to Tidal’s API.
