Describe the issue

I have a Nucleus server and use an iphone and ipad to control it. Tidal sometimes connects, but then will periodically drop while streaming. When I try to re-connect, I can sign into tidal when prompted, but when redirected to the roon app, Tidal is unable to connect. My roon service was working fine for over a year, but this problem started in the last month or so.

Describe your network setup

ISP is Xfinity/Comcast. TP link router. Nucleus is connected by ethernet to router. Player is Hegel amplifier connected by ethernet to router. Roon app is on an ipad connected by Wifi. Rest of the system is working well. I can login into Tidal directly without a problem.

Hey @Tony_Humpage,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report. Sorry to hear about your Tidal inconsistencies.

Do you happen to know what DNS server your router / Roon Server are currently using?

A good first step here would be to check what DNS server the TP-Link router is using Log into the TP-Link admin panel (usually 192.168.68.1) and look at WAN settings → DNS. If it’s set to “Automatic” it’s using Comcast’s DNS servers, which can be inconsistent. Try manually setting it to a reliable public DNS:

  • Primary: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)
  • Secondary: 8.8.8.8 (Google)
Then reboot the router. Thank you! 🙏

Thanks for the suggestion. I am indeed using Comcast DNS and will try switching to an alternate.

Hi @Tony_Humpage,

Just checking in—did you get a chance to switch the DNS settings in your TP-Link router to Cloudflare/Google?

If so, has the Tidal connection stabilized on your iPad and iPhone? We’re curious to see if moving away from the Comcast defaults solved those periodic drops for you.

Let us know the result!

I am away from home at the moment and will return later this week. I will do some more testing when I get back and let you know.

Sounds good @Tony_Humpage, we’ll be monitoring for your reply. :+1:
