My Meridian 218 (firmware 1.1 build 272) randomly appears and disappears from Roon.
I have captured the problem at network level:
* The 218 continuously sends its IPNP discovery packets to 239.255.255.249:9001 every ~2 seconds, and the Mac running Roon receives them even while the 218 is missing from Roon. * Meridian Control on my iPad can still see and control the 218 when Roon cannot. * When Roon does discover it, RoonAppliance connects successfully to the 218 on ports 57355/57356. * During the repeated appear/disappear cycle, the 218 sends FIN on 57355, Roon closes/resets the session and reconnects. This repeats every ~3–4 seconds. * Roon processes do not restart during this cycle. * Network connectivity and ping remain working throughout. * Sometimes the 218 disappears completely from Roon and later reappears spontaneously without me changing anything.
So the 218 remains present and operational on the network, and its discovery packets reach the Roon Mac, but Roon intermittently stops showing it.
Could you please escalate this to engineering? I can provide the packet captures if needed.
Thank you.

· My main router is a standard Movistar/Telefónica router. I have two Wi-Fi extenders. The Meridian 218 is connected via Ethernet to a TP-Link RE450 v4 Wi-Fi extender, which connects wirelessly to the main router. The Mac Studio running Roon connects via Wi-Fi. All devices are on the same 192.168.1.x subnet. The Meridian 218 has a static IP address (192.168.1.100). I have also tested an unmanaged Ethernet switch between the Meridian 218 and the RE450, with no change in behavior.
The 218 sending a FIN indicates that it reached the end of the data stream and is instructing RAAT to tear down the control session. This is also what we see in logs: Roon is responding to device announcement and session teardown commands from the Zone itself.
We have a few contextual questions that might seem irrelevant, but they’ll help illuminate the full picture here:
Do you have Shuffle enabled in Roon when this occurs?
What about any other Meridian endpoints or firmware active on the network?
If possible, hardwire both units (server and 218) to the same router directly, to isolate multicast forwarding between nodes
Ultimately, this is coming from the endpoint, and it looks like a race condition with setup/teardown between the old and the new session. The triggering conditions are clearly set up in this case, so we’d like to try to isolate the problem.
Shuffle: No, Shuffle is not enabled. The issue occurs even when Roon is idle and nothing is playing.
Other Meridian equipment: There are no other Meridian endpoints connected to the network. I do have other Meridian equipment (speakers, a processor and an HD261), but none of those devices are network-connected. The 218 is the only Meridian device on the LAN, running firmware 1.1 build 272.
Direct Ethernet test: Unfortunately, I cannot connect the 218 directly to the main router because of their physical locations. The 218 is connected via Ethernet to a TP-Link RE450, which connects wirelessly to the main router. I also tested an unmanaged Ethernet switch between the RE450 and the 218, with identical results.
Meridian Control on the iPad continues to see the 218 reliably while Roon repeatedly loses and rediscovers it. The Mac can continuously ping the 218, and the 218’s IPNP multicast announcements continue reaching the Mac while the issue occurs.
I am happy to perform any other test that could help isolate the setup/teardown race condition.
I updated Roon to the latest version released two days ago, and since then, the intermittent disappearance of the Meridian 218 has stopped. Thank you very much for your help and for resolving the issue.
