I get the “waiting for roon server” at random times. Music pauses for like a second.
I have a Roon server PC that’s dedicated and only runs Roon (Windows 11)
Non managed switch, then to the streamer
No issues with internet as I have a 2000/200 link.
Everything restarted. I have even wiped the PC and re-installed everything. New switch and different streamer. Same issue.
Firewall is open and everything is allowed. New switch with QoS for the server
New ethernet cables and so on. Both server and streamer are connected to a UPS so no power issues.
I wish Roon had a ‘off line’ mode and didn’t need to be connected to the internet (even for a week before it needs to phone home) I have a lifetime licence
I can use other music apps with zero issues.
Everything is within 3 meters so short run cables (and same happens over wifi)
Thanks for taking the time to write in! We were able to review a fresh diagnostic from your Roon Server, and saw the following errors, leading to playback stopping:
Trace: [FIIO M17] [Lossless, 16/44 FLAC => 16/44] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:03/3:39] Sometimes - Erasure

Trace: [FiiO M17 @ 100.112.22.40:40639] [raatclient] GOT [89] {"status":"Dropout","samples":24255}
Warn: [FIIO M17] [zoneplayer/raat] Too many dropouts (>3s dropped out in the last 30s). Killing stream
Trace: [FIIO M17] [zoneplayer/raat] too many dropouts. stopping stream
Warn: [zone FIIO M17] Track Stopped Due to Slow Media
An important thing to observe here is that the buffer is at 100% before playback stops. This points to something with your local connection that may be causing bandwidth throttling and dropouts.
Does this happen no matter the Roon Remote you use? Does this happen no matter the endpoint / zone you use?
Yes that was from yesterday and a slow connection. The issue happens at home and with my Eversolo H2 and Eversolo A6. The Fiio M17 was while I was out and I got a lot of drop outs from Tidal tracks
I’ve had 4 issues since I posted this topic (in 1hr)
Just to clarify, the logs quoted above appear to be from the FiiO M17, which was used outside the home. Since the same issue occurs on the home LAN with the Eversolo endpoints and a dedicated Windows 11 Core, it would be useful to review logs specifically from those sessions.
From experience, a “Waiting for Roon Server” message combined with a 100% buffer often points to a brief interruption in the control/heartbeat traffic rather than a lack of bandwidth. On Windows 11 this is frequently caused by the network adapter entering a low-power state.
On the Core PC, it may be worth checking the Ethernet adapter settings:
In Device Manager → Network Adapter → Properties → Advanced, disable
Energy Efficient Ethernet, Green Ethernet, Power Saving, and Flow Control if present.
In Power Management, uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
Finally, regarding the switch with QoS While QoS is good for prioritizing internet traffic (like gaming or VoIP), it is not always good on a local switch for Hi-Fi. If the switch’s QoS logic doesn’t recognize Roon’s RAAT packets, it may mistakenly deprioritize them or introduce processing latency, causing dropouts. A quick test connecting the Core and endpoint directly to the router (bypassing the switch) would rule this out.
Thanks for the additional information @DSD_Fan - feel free to share a more specific date, time, and name of track playing the next time you experience issues.
Sometimes it happens when nothing is playing. Just with Roon open.
Yesterday was a good day. Mind you, not ideal settings as I was at work. Connected to a Gl.iNet Slate 7 with Tailscale and hardly had any dropouts (and I only have a unlimited 40mbps link, but waiting on a new SIM/plan with 250mbps)
At home on Sunday and the Eversolo A6 MA I had a millisecond drop out
I’ll be listening a lot more today as I am working from home and will advise
We wanted to check in to see how things had performed over the last few days. If you encountered any connectivity issues, please share an approximate date/time or the name of a track that was playing in Roon. Our team has requested account logs from your RoonServer instance and we’ll pinpoint the error. Thanks!
