Description of Issue
My internal storage drive still presents itself. When connecting to server on a MAC using “connect to server”, I can still see the internal storage drive. All of my music library is there. HOWEVER, my internal storage drive path that housed my backup files has disappeared, and now the automatic backups fail.
When looking in the app under settings, the internal drive has only one option - Format
Can you please advise how to correct this?
If I go to set a new backup path, the settings / Backups / (any) path will not recognize the drive. It doesn’t exist. I cannot create a new path as the drive “does not exist”.
@Geoff_Coupe
Hello Geoff, is this absolutely a fact? Not to create a backup file in the Nucleus itself? I do understand why not to create a backup in the SSD internal storage but I am curious why it will create a problem and what kind of problem when creating a Backup in the M2.SSD
I never used an external USB drive for a backup folder so far.
I always create automatically a backup on my Synology NAS and a version in my Nucleus Plus in RoonBackups.
If this is wrong (which could be) please tell me why this is not correct?
Because if you reinstall Roon OS using the Web Administration page it rebuilds the files and folders on the M.2 SSD and wipes out anything that isn’t part of the standard installation. So if that’s where you put your Backup folder - it’s been deleted.
Also, think about it - holding a Backup on the M.2 SSD is pretty illogical. The whole point of a Backup is that it resides in a separate location from your system.
Thanks for your fast reply and indeed it makes sense.
The Synology NAS makes sense but not at the M2.SSD.
Will add a memory stick in my Nucleus Plus for backups
Personally, I would get a proper USB SSD. Memory sticks are not the best at coping with Roon Backups. A Roon Backup consists of hundreds of folders and thousands of files. Writing these to a memory stick can tax some sticks…
You have two M.2 slots in your Nucleus? That’s unusual. I’ve only ever known of Nucleus models to have one M.2 slot plus a SATA interface for the 2.5" drive used for music storage.
The USB stick has failed twice in this instance, which is why I created a folder on the internal drive. I will replace the USB SSD a third time and hope for the best. Thanks for the input and solid advice.
