Now that we’re all getting our music delivered by streaming, I think this Internet cable map is more interesting than ever.
Could Starlink replace the cables? It’s promising lower latency, but I don’t know about bandwidth. Each of the underseas cables carries thousands of separate fibers. On the other hand, Starlink is going to have satellite-to-satellite optical laser links, 5 lasers per satellite, so maybe so. Interesting simulation by Mark Handley on YouTube:
