[Investigation] B1458 SPL lose tracks after a restart of the server

After creating SPLs, if you restart Roon the SPL “losers” tracks (sometimes all). you have to enter the singles SPL, click on “Edit Focus” and click on “Save” to reappear the complete list.

I did other tests.
It seems that every time the server is restarted, the SPLs are emptied and refilled. This process is very slow and takes a lot of CPU and after a few minutes it stops updating leaving the SPLs with a few traces.

As I said in the previous post, I have to click on “Edit Focus” and “Save” to restore the correct number of tracks, Until a new server restart that will empty the SPLs again.

In total I created 8 SPLs starting from a tag that contains a maximum of 60 or 70 tracks, with all local files.

Hi, @Daniele_Piancastelli, thank you for your report. Could you, please, share more information about which focus criteria you used when creating smart playlists? Did you use TAGs by any chance?

May I also ask you to use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Please, also leave a timestamp when the latest reboot was perfromed.

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan,
yes I used tags. Previously I had assigned a tag to the tracks to select my favorite tracks for each year (Selection 2024, Selection 2023…).
Now I created the related SPL, one for each tag of the year. As said, the tags contain few tracks, at most 60/70 and all local. I did a reboot at 20.20 CET where the SPLs emptied and remained empty. Only for one I performed the “edit focus”–>“save” procedure.
Previously I rebooted around 17.00 or 18.00 CET. In this case the SPL’s had emptied and partially filled as said in the previous post

@Daniele_Piancastelli, we analysed your logs and our current theory is that this issue might be caused by a combination of using Roon TAGs coming from files tag and smart playlists. May I kindly ask you to upload your Database following these steps:

  1. Locate your Database folder using this article
  2. Create a zip archive that contains your Database folder
  3. Upload this ziup archive here

Thanks!

Ivan

I uploaded the db

I could agree. This morning I created 2 more SPLs without using tags, and they seem to work fine

The latest EA builds have not fixed or improved this issue on SPLs

Hi, @Daniele_Piancastelli, sorry for the late response here. We finally got a chance to try reproducing this issue using your database. So far, we have not been able to reproduce it even using your Database which is strange. Those smart playlists you created using TAGs are populated properly after each reboot for me…

Just to clarify, a few questions:

  1. Does this issue always affect the same playlists or it’s always random ones created based on TAGs?
  2. Could you, please, try creating a new smart playlist using a TAG as a criterion and see if it is going to be affected by this bug as well?

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan, I did some tests creating SPLs both from tags created in roon and from tags created via “ROONTRACKTAG” in flac files.
The problem only occurs with SPLs created from “ROONTRACKTAG” tags

Thank you for the answer, @Daniele_Piancastelli, could you, please, tell me if you experience this issue in the following case:

  1. Create a brand new smart playlist based on a ROONTRACKTAG
  2. Reboot your RoonServer

What I am trying to figure out is that if the problem is present for previously created smart playlists or new ones as well.

Thanks!

Ivan

Yes, I just created a smart playlist based on a roontracktag and restarted the server. Same problem
