Describe the issue

Zones via Airplay2 can pair correctly, but IOException in RTSP

Describe your network setup

UDM Pro as intervlan gateway, switches Unifi, Unifi AC-PRO wireless. Vlan A (RoonCore and Panasonic 43W90, firetv), Vlan B (Macbook, iPad and iPhone). No rules between those two vlans. mDNS and IGMP snooping enabled between those two vlans.

Let me describe the issue. I can’t use my AirPlay2 zones, they can’t play music.

My tests:

  • same vlan (RoonServer to Panasonic TV; the tv is wireless, Roon is on my QNAP NAS, so wired) KO
  • different vlans (RoonServer to iPad OK*, RoonServer to Macbook KO, RoonServer to MacMini KO … all Apple devices on the same vlan/SSID)
  • if I try to open a Youtube video from my iPhone and send to the Panasonic TV (different SSIDs), it works like a charm.

So, it seems if I start audio/video from an Apple device to another device (Apple or not Apple), it works. If I try to start audio from Roon to any AirPlay device, it doesn’t work.

  • with iPad it works, but sometimes suddenly it disappear from Zones list.

the log:
Panasonic: TV Cucina 192.168.3.130
RoonServer: 192.168.3.3
I’ve tried with PINs, but I had the same issues as

So I’ve used the password.

Hi @Andrea_Riela,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a thorough report and we’re sorry you’re experiencing these frustrating playback problems.

The traces you’ve shared suggest you’re encountering at least one known and ticketed issue with Roon’s Airplay2 pairing in certain firmware environments.

We’d like to ask you to restart RoonServer two times to enable verbose logging and then repeat this test:

  • same vlan (RoonServer to Panasonic TV; the tv is wireless, Roon is on my QNAP NAS, so wired) KO
Please let us know the name of the track you attempted to play or an approximate timestamp of the test. Our team will follow up with our conclusions and more information about the other tests you’ve performed.

Thank you for your patience!

done. I’ve tried to listen “12 etudes d’execution transcendante”, Liszt, Alice Sara Ott. Around 12.10 AM CET

some info:

192.168.10.98 is my iPad
192.168.3.130 is my Panasonic 43W90 (firetv)
192.168.3.3 is the Roon Server
192.168.3.254 (and all .254) gateway UDM-PRO

let me know if you need more, I have also a wireshark on the network so I can take some pcap files if needed.

btw not sure if this is relevant, but my iPad and the Panasonic TV are randomly disappearing from the list of Zones. For the iPad, it can be related to a timeout (?), I see a lot of “keepalives” in the logs. For the Panasonic, it happens when the tv is in standby (but I’ve checked, the stack IP is always reachable), if I turn on usually I see it in the list.

FYI I’ve tried also to disable and re-enable the Panasonic Zone (“TV Cucina”) and tried again to listen that song at 12.38 and 12.40 AM CET

Andrea

this seems interesting:

12/04 12:38:58 Warn: [airplay/client] Failed to get OPTIONS: Result[Status=InvalidRemoteData]

Roon is expecting something different by the client?
