iOS 27 Apple HomePods fail to stream sound from Roon (Airplay) (ref#9KI1FY) [Hotfix Released]

If you upgraded the Apple TVs to 27 it definitely won’t work. It’ll connect, but you won’t hear any sound. I’m wrapping up fixes for that this week.

Thanks Stephen, that matches my setup exactly.
Both Apple TVs are already on tvOS 27, so I’ll leave those two HomePod 2 pairs alone for now and wait for your fix.

Good to know you’re wrapping this up this week.

I have it working on my tvOS 26 and tvOS 27, but since it is airplay I’m trying to be very careful before releasing the fixes. Airplay is tricky and apple broke so many things recently that I’m very nervous and maybe overly cautious about the fixes?

Another data point: My HomePod mini on 27 now works on the recently released hot fix from Roon.

Thanks to all at Roon who got this fix out so quickly!

All mine are working now too - thanks to all for getting this fixed - much appreciated

thanks - 2.73 (build 1696) on Roon Rock resolves the HomePod 2nd Gen (tvos27.0) silent play issue. Now the HomePod 2Gen (tvOS27.0) is playing the sound finally again! Happy Days!!

How is everyone getting their HomePod Mini to work with the hotfix? I have updated everything, power cycled, and disabled/re-enabled the HomePod Mini in Roon and still getting silent playback.

If you scroll up a bit here in the thread, you will see several success reports and IIRC nobody else with a problem. @stephen will surely be interested in your failure case

I got it working by turning passcode off on my HomeKit app.

I think I might have run into this while working on the tvOS 27 support update. When the next hotfix comes out (hopefully beginning of next week) you would test that out again and let me know what happens.

I’m also working on improving our airplay support in general, but I think we’ll save that for an extended EA release

I am having issue getting this version of 27.0.1 and 2.73.1 to play music on my Apple HomePods.
Everything is displaying and in Roon it looks like it is playing, but no music is coming from any of my HomePosts.

Perhaps this will help you, too?

Nevermind.
I figured it out.
My server was stuck on an older version and was not upgrading correctly.

I have another couple fixes/improvements to for homepod that might fix this or at least improve this. I’m hoping that release will be out early next week.

Best advice I can give macOS users is don’t update until .2 or .3 of the OS. SO 27.2 or 27.3 is the safe zone for A mostly headache free transition to v27.

Only time you cannot do this is when your computer is so new and the kernel that supports your mac chip is only available with the newest OS.

Fixes have been merged in. Hopefully we’ll be able to get them out early next week.

Hello all,

We have just pushed out the Hotfix release. Please try to update Roon to the latest version and let us know if that helps with this issue:

Important Note:

If your Apple TV was already set up in Roon before updating, one extra step is needed:

  1. Please go to Settings > Audio.
  2. Disable the Apple TV, then enable it again.
  3. Enter the PIN shown on your TV.

This only needs to be done once. After updating, you may also see a “requires a database upgrade” message. That is expected.

Thank you again for your patience as we worked on this, and please let us know if the fix is working properly on your end.

After updating to Roon 2.73.2, my Apple TV → HomePod stereo pair has stopped working completely.

It was working before the update, but now playback does not even start — the progress bar does not move and there is no sound.

My B&W Formation Duo is also currently unavailable via Roon Ready due to the Formation 2.10A1 issue, so at this point I no longer have a single device at home on which I can reliably play music from Roon.

Hi @hamuAOD,

Whilst waiting for Roon support to diagnose, as a troubleshooting step, can you try rebooting the device running your Roon Server and also the Apple TV.

Hi Carl,

I rebooted both my Ubuntu server running Roon Server and the Apple TV, but unfortunately the issue remains unchanged.
