Describe the issue

This issue started with an internet outage and initially impacted my Synology NAS and I have a ticket with Synology to discuss. Essentially, I am getting an error that states that an IP conflict occurred at the interface LAN 1 on Wooters_Music. To fix it says to check network settings which I did and I have my NAS set up to a STATIC IP address and when I jump into my LUXUL switchbox it shows no other devices on that IP address.
Today while at my desk I watched my albums (go from 1750 to 311), tracks ( go from 45,000 to 4,000), artists ( go from 3950 to 381). Additionally, I the music kept stopping every 45 seconds to minute while I got the purple circular spinning in the center of my screen. Then it would play and again and stop.
I also got this error "This directory is not available. Check the directory or edit this folder if it's been moved." then it lists my ip address\Music. Trying to paste this over but can't seem to get it to attach. It is on my other thread. My equipment is set up as follows: Grimm MU1 Streamer, Synology DS918+ NAS, Luxul 2624 Switchbox, LUXUL 5000 Router, and Dac is a Nagra Tube Dac. Ethernet is hardwired.
Over the last week I have manually added about 300 vinyl albums I have into my Roon set up so I would have analog and digital copies of my vinyl collection. Additionally, I went through my entire library and deleted duplicate albums in an effort to clean up my pride and joy Roon set up.

Describe your network setup

Synology NAS DS918+, LUXUL XMS-2624 Switchbox, LUXUL ABR-5000 Router, Ruckus Zone Director - 1200 and WAP's, Grimm MU1 Streamer, Nagra Tube DAC. Internet is hardwired, Xfinity 1.2GB service

I would reserve the NAS IP at the router, rather than a static IP on the NAS. Maybe try this.

Hey @Mark_Wooters,

Thanks for sharing your issue through the TS typeform! @Mr.Flibble makes a good point with the above thought - are you able to set an allocated IP at the router level for your NAS?

We’ll be on standby for your reply and results. Thank you! :raising_hands:

So, here is where I am. The Synology team had me establish a new static IP address. I did that successfully. HOWEVER, when I went into the Roon set up under Storage, Add New Folder, Add Network Share, Type in what is following under Network Share Location and did the \xxx.xxx.x.xxx\Music I get a RED comment back that There was an Unexpected Error. At this point I’m just trying to get the new IP to work because my old IP is now taken by something else. I know this is easy stuff for you guys but, I’m struggling and just wnat to listen to music.

What model router do you have? Folks here could help you set up a DHCP static mapping (reservation) if you share that. This basically involves specifying the MAC address of your NAS and an IP address you want to reserve for it to always have. The process is a little different in each router.

Thanks so much! My router is a Luxul ABR - 5000 also called an Epic 5000.

As I have been troubleshooting, I may have found some success in Benjamin’s article when I clicked the Help button. I did assign the new static IP through Synology and have that working. When I went Settings, Storage, Add Folder, Add Network Share, I was adding the new static IP BUT not my username or Password for my Synology NAS and yet every time I go on the NAS I have to click through it. As soon as I did that BINGO it started to download from my NAS and it literally just stopped and I think I have my music back.

I can’t say I’m entirely a novice as I set up my wired and wireless system; however, one of the issues that I see for me personally is that when it was asking for a username or password, I should have known it meant for my NAS but when one panics with the thought of losing your music, as these situations may cause, I failed to connect the dots.

I want to be a power user and have learned a lot but I am still intimidated with the thought that I could literally wipe out a lot of music I have paid for. Enough rambling, but please, any thoughts you may have are welcome.

I can’t find a lot of good documentation online for that but…see this page

In the left hand navigation under the part that page highlights, there is a section for “static leases.” That is the area where you will specify the MAC address of your Synology and specify an IP address for that Synology always to receive when it joins your network.

On your Synology, you can find your MAC address in:

Control Panel > Info Center > Network.

Hello @Mark_Wooters,

Thank you for the update. We’re glad to hear that you were able to resolve the connection issue.

Just to clarify regarding the steps you mentioned: these actions are completely safe and cannot result in any loss of your music files. The only potential outcome is that a user may be temporarily blocked by the NAS itself, but your files themselves remain fully intact. Essentially, Roon cannot modify your music files in any way. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns regarding this matter.

Thank you for the update. I appreciate the follow up.

Thanks @DDPS I am familiar with both the Synology and LUXUL internal functions. Have used multiple times when setting up static IP’s for my audio system. I’m a former and a current McIntosh user as well.

I would recommend a backup of your libray which is located on your NAS.

Hi @Mark_Wooters ,

Yes, a backup of your music to another drive is suggested just as a precautionary measure. Since the issue is solved, I’ll go ahead and mark the thread for closeure. Happy listening!
