ipad keeps crashing in the options menu. No matter what I do, as soon as I open the options menu (circle with three dots), the app crashes. I can’t access the album, I can’t change a playlist, nothing… Always immediate termination of the app?
Have you checked that you are running the same Roon versions on both your Roon server and your iPad?
Hi @Jochen_Fruehinsfeld ,
Welcome to the forum! We are investigating similar reports and we have seen that this issue can occur due to outdated Roon app, when you have a chance, please update to the latest available version from the App Store and let us know if it helps. Thanks!
Thank you for your reply.
When I restarted the app yesterday, a small update was displayed and obviously carried out, because everything was ok at first. But shortly afterwards nothing worked at all. Roon could not be operated on either the iPad or the Mac. No playing of songs, no operation, nothing. Only after restarting the Mac (stable OS 17.7!) was operation possible again.
My constellation is as follows: Roon Core set up on the Mac Studio, multi-room system with Sonos and other speakers. I’m planning to buy the Mytek BBII, which has the Core integrated, so that I can also store my ripped CDs on the hard disk. I basically like Roon very much. But: my planned switch to purely digital with my own albums and my qobuz account shouldn’t be dependent on completely unstable software where the iPad and the Core constantly switch off and have to be restarted. I want to be able to listen to music without disruption and not have to constantly fiddle with the IT because problems keep occurring. I took out a monthly subscription with Roon during my test phase and was actually planning to switch to lifetime after a successful test. But my experience so far can’t be called successful - I was more concerned with the setup, resets etc. than with listening to my music. Do you have any tips for me on how to fix the problems?
Many thanks for your help
We’d be happy to help, but we need to clarify where things currently stand.
Just to confirm, you’ve updated to the lastest available Roon build and restarted your server machine you’re now able to connect the iPad again? Restarting the RoonServer machine after (infrequent, but necessary) Roon updates is a rare but sometimes necessary step. Often, restarting RoonServer itself as a background process will suffice. In the most recent case, we shipped a hotfix for an unforeseen issue (the crash on three dots menu).
What is the specific issue you’re now facing?
Thank you for your reply,
I may have been unlucky that problems occurred only a few minutes apart. First the problem with the options menu, which was obviously fixed by the “hotfix”. And shortly afterwards the complete failure. As a user, I don’t know what the problem is at the moment. Sometimes I have to restart the app because the playback zone has been lost. Another time, I got a tip from the community to uninstall and reinstall the software because of a problem. Otherwise, if a problem occurs, try restarting the iPad. In the case of the total failure (when no operation was possible), only a restart of the Mac with the installed Roon core helped. Do you understand? I’ve only been testing for 2 weeks and have had all sorts of problems. I don’t know if it’s because I have the Core installed on my Mac (which I would change by buying the Mytek BBII). I find it very positive that I get personal support (if I can’t find my issue in the community). It’s normal that I don’t know all the functions in such a short time, and I’m not going to ask you about that. Unfortunately, my problems were related to system errors. I just want to avoid spending €6000 on hardware and a lifetime subscription and then being constantly confronted with errors.
Maybe I was really unlucky - and my question remains whether the integrated Roon core can minimize these problems?
Many thanks for your efforts!
I wouldn’t immediately jump to buying new hardware. We have many users that use Macs as their servers with no problem. If in your current state your iPad is not crashing then I’m afraid we would need to wait for the issue to reoccur to look into it more but I don’t think using a Mac is the cause. There are a number of potential causes.

Hello,
My problem is that no storage can be defined. I am currently setting up a new hard disk as the storage location for the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II as Roon Core. No problem so far. Backed up today, then added more files to the hard drive on the Mac, reconnected to Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II, set up the backup as a restore to get the previous library. But the external hard disk is not recognized, no other option for external storage is displayed. It can’t be the hard disk (it is recognized elsewhere, is ExFat formatted and is also recognized by the temporary Mac-Roon-Core (is of course deactivated again!). The Mytek BBII is in the correct network, set up as an internal core, but no storage location appears under Storage settings, where many folder options are usually displayed.
What can I do?
Thank you very much!
Jochen
Please don’t open new support request topics for the same issue. It won’t get your issue resolved any quicker and in fact may delay things because the support team won’t be seeing the complete picture.
I have merged your separate posts into this existing request thread. If you have further information, please post it here into this thread. Thank you.
To investigate the crashes we need some logs from the iPad. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Have you tried plugging the external hard drive into a different port on the Mytec? If there aren’t any other ports to use can you try plugging another working USB device into the port?
Ich habe mehrere Festplattentypen (SSD, NVME) probiert, mit mehreren Kabeln und an beiden USB-Anschlüssen. Leider ohne Erfolg
Hey @Jochen_Fruehinsfeld,
Thanks for the follow up!
To confirm, have you fully removed and reinstalled Roon on the iPad yet? My apologies if we’ve glazed over this already.
With that, I’d be curious to see if you experience the same crashing when using a completely fresh database. Steps to follow below:
Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:
- Create a Backup of your current database
- Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
- Navigate to your Roon Database Location
- Find the folder that says “Roon Server”
- Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
- Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
- Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:
Before restoring a backup, re-open Roon and only add your Qobuz account, and see if the same issue occurs.
We’ll be on standby for your reply, thanks!
