Just upgraded to early access version 2.65 (build 1654) this morning. Was listening for about an hour (via iPhone on my stereo). Went to pick up the phone and it was very hot. This hasn’t happened before. I have been on early access for quite a while but had no issues. Could this be due to the update? Nothing else has changed that I know of (no Apple updates.) Had to turn phone off to let it cool down. Any ideas? Never had any issues with phone overheating for any reason.
Did your iOS app update? I don’t have 1654 for iOS on Early Access through Test Flight (I did get the ARC update though), and in the release notes it’s not clear if there should be one.
No. I am still on an old iOS version of Roon. How do I get the early access version? I have installed TestFlight but the Roon link shows as invalid when I click it.
You should always run either Early Access or Production consistently on all devices: the server the PC control app(s), and the mobile remote(s). Otherwise, strange behavior can occur.
How to use Early Access is described here, for iOS go to Updating iOS apps to earlyaccess
Glad you found the mismatch between the iPhone app and the rest of the system. Running Early Access on the Roon Server side while the iOS remote stays on an older build can lead to odd behavior like this, and the good news is that it appears the overheating was tied to that version mismatch.
Since everything is running normally now, I’d just keep an eye on it for the next few listening sessions. If the phone starts running hot again, the most useful details would be the exact local time, what was playing, and whether the iPhone was being used as a Roon Remote over WiFi or cellular at the time. We can also review the diagnostics around that window once we enable them on your account.
If anything changes, send us the details and we’ll take another look.
