IR remote for U2

Dear all, I was wondering if there are any alternatives for the IR remote besides the original Lumin one?

The original is nice and solid but it got very expensive at €330 as of the time of writing this post.

Basic features like power, play, stop, next and previous will be plenty for me.

I’d the formerly the IR remote from Lumin and it’s really a nice one. I don’t expect that you’ll get another (cheaper) remote working fully with thefä U2.

But: If you need a remote only for Roon, there are a lot of options:

  • Take a look into rooExtend → for one Roon Endpoint I’m using roo6d, but this isn’t (together with the license and the needed hardware) really cheaper than the Lumin remote.
  • Use http api for Roon → this I’m using with a Philips Pronto TSU-9400, which is able to send controls through IP. There are also some newer remotes, which are able to handle WLAN/LAN, but also not cheap.
  • Use Home Assistant (HA) together with a cheap IR (or bluetooth, or zigbee) remote and an external IR receiver, which can integrated through e.g. Tasmota into HA. If you’re using already HA, then this can be the best solution. But it’s a bit tricky to configure the first time. By the way: For HA Roon has a complete implementation.
