Is RoonOS 3.0 ever coming out of Early Access

The improvements are real, but I am not a fan of running early access software on my one and only Roon Server.

Is there a production release of Roon O/S 3 coming any time in the remainder of the year?

It will be released when it’s ready.

Thanks for such an inspiring answer

It’s the nature of software development. Only Roon developers have a rough idea but you didn’t ask them and your post is in Uncategorized where they don’t see it. (Though they probably wouldn’t want to commit to anything because they can’t see the future, either).

If they slap a “production” label onto it right now, they could release it, and it would be exactly the same as it is now. If you want it now, switch it (only the OS) and see if it works for you. If yes, good. If no, switch back. Or read the user comments in Early Access and see if anyone reported anything that would affect you.

I use it and it works for me, there are a few nice features and the admin page looks nicer, but there’s nothing at all that makes any difference to everyday Roon usage.

I was hoping a Roon Dev would have responded because I did test it and found it to be more responsive

I don’t see any difference on my NUC. It would be very difficult to pinpoint a perceived difference to RoonOS itself without performing rigorous testing that eliminates all other variables - an effort that barely anyone would want to expend who doesn’t get payed for it. And any differences are probably small, just like there is no night-and-day difference between generic Linux distributions, either.

You could try asking in Early Access, perhaps when the next OS update is released, but don’t hold your breath. But if it works for you, why not use it? They wouldn’t have released it to EA if they didn’t think it’s ready for paying users, so there shouldn’t be any critical bugs that break anything valuable. (And if they release it to production, this isn’t a guarantee that there aren’t any bugs, either, just that none were found in internal testing and EA that prevented a production release)
