Does anyone know of a way to tag a file/album so that Roon does not try to match it? I know I can go into an album in my library to do this, but I would prefer to be able to set this before Roon loads the files into the library.
I collect a lot of expanded soundtracks and classical box sets, and Roon almost always gets these wrong, either combining classical into one box even when I tagged them to the original albums or matching to the original soundtrack releases - not the expanded ones. Completely understandable given how Roon does the matching but still annoying, especially when I add an album to my server while remote from my Nucleus and cannot therefore perform library edits until I return home. So the albums then appear wrong on my Arc app.
(Alternatively, I wish Roon would let me provide a discogs or musicbrainz link to the correct album for the match.) Thanks!
Short answer no. Roon will always match to one of its sources MusicBrianz, AllMusic or Wikipedia so it’s known to Roon or it won’t be able to retrieve the extra data that isn’t part of the file metadata. You can set Roon to use your own metadata as a general import option or per album but this won’t stop it looking it up for the reason mentioned.
Classical box sets are known weakness of Roon. If you search the forum many users have posted workarounds. They are working on box handling in a future update they said earlier this year.
Thank you for your post. The library curation need you’ve outlined is not unreasonable, but it swims upstream of the current library management mechanism.
I recommend browsing the suggestions above as well as other threads in Roon Software Discussion. If you post in Feature Suggestions or lend your voice to an existing request there, you’ll find the internal impact at Roon to be more weighty over time,.
