Track (volume) leveling does not work well on quiet music with deep bass.
In general, I’m not very happy with R128 gain because it often doesn’t make levels match to my ears. This is one bad case scenario.
Consider Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight from Face Value. The 2013 HDtracks release and the 2016 Deluxe CD release have +1.4 and -7.4 track gains and the same dynamic range but play back with at least a 3db difference in level when volume leveling is set to track.
Songs with quiet sounds above a deep bass are displayed in the wave view at the bottom of the screen with quiet and head banging loud parts at approx same heights. An example is the title track on Creed - My Own Prison.
