Description of Issue

Hello,

I returned from a long trip (2.5 months) just yesterday. While I was traveling, I shut everything down.
Today I restarted all the hardware and got the “We had an issue loading your database” message from Roon. I reinstalled the ROCK OS but that did not help. I was afraid to reset the database without contacting you first.

Thanks,

–dave

Hello @David_Carlson,

I am so sorry about the welcome you’ve had after your vacation  .

The error you’re experiencing is generally a sign of low level corruption in your database. Our database infrastructure is designed specifically to prevent this type of corruption, and we don’t take this class of issue lightly.

We’ve traced a few reports like this in the past to hard drive integrity issues but generally speaking, this means that Roon is reading information from your hard drive that is different from what was originally written, and the database is now unable to load properly.

Setting up Roon fresh is the best step at this point. You can use these instructions to do so:

  • Stop RoonServer from running in ROCK’s WebUI
  • Navigate to your ROCK’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Roon database folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Core” and connect to the new database
  • (Optional) - Restore your database from a Backup prior to the issue starting

If the database loads properly, your edits, playlists, tags, etc should be intact, and we can confirm everything is performing properly once it’s been restored. If you do not have any backups, unfortunately you will need to start with a fresh database.

Please, let us know how it goes

I tried the suggested fix several times without success. Even restoring a backup encountered the same problem. Frustrated, I went to bed to sleep on it before I did anything destructive. And it occurred to me that I hadn’t done the very first thing one always should do – REBOOT. I realized I had just walked in after my vacation and started turning things on. So, when I got up in the morning, I shut everything down and restarted each device – while paying serious attention to the boot order. Much to my surprise, the error did not reoccur. Roon now has been running for 72 hours without a problem except being a little bit slower than before.

Thanks for your help! Perhaps my thoughtlessness will benefit someone else in the future.

BTW, just one thing was not recovered after the reboot Two of my favorite playlists. But several others are intact. Weird!

Thanks for the update, @David_Carlson. The playlists that are missing — Where are they from? Were they created in Roon or imported from somewhere else?

The missing playlists were created in Roon. My old ones imported from iTunes made it through.

Hi @David_Carlson — I’m so sorry I missed your response here! Are the playlists still missing in Roon?

Yes.still missing.

However, I am traveling right now and won’t be using the system until about 9/10.
