Describe the issue

I can't get roon 2.0 to work on my computer. If you received this information and haven't replied, I can wait but if I made a mistake filling out the form and/or you didn't get it, please let me know. Thank you. David Pilgrim

Describe your network setup

Astound broadband 1G, Netgear GS308E 1G network switch, Asus XT wifi and router, Lenovo P3 with Intel I7 processor, Linn DSM/3, QNAP streamer. All connections wired.

What’s the exact Windows version? Though it looks like Win 11 and obviously this should work.

Would be nice if the link in the error message led to something specific and not just the generic help homepage

Another thing: There’s a Roon window in the left of your screenshot. Is that not working? What happens if you simply close the error message?

Yes it windows 11 pro.

And what about this?

That’s Roon 1.8. I went back to it. When I close the error message it returns in less than 1 minute.

I don’t know what’s going on there but I don’t think you can install and run 1.8 and 2.0 in parallel on the same Windows computer.

Have you checked this?

I did initially. I will try again.

when I had 2.0, I did not have 1.8. when 2.0 wasn’t working, I reinstalled 1.8

And yet in the screenshot there is a window by 1.8 and an error message by 2.0, or not? Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t get it

Hi @David_Pilgrim,

Thank you for your post. A look at account diagnostics does confirm that the legacy 1.8 database is currently active on your Windows 11 machine. The Roon 2.0 instance installed on that machine has not been visible to our servers in over a month, and was running an outdated build when it last reported.

We’ll need to deeply remove both databases to refresh conditions before reinstalling, taking care to create a reliable Backup so we retain your library and settings.

If your intention is to update to Roon 2.0 and remain on the active, automatically-updated production build for your RoonServer machine, then take the following steps:

  • Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old."
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • Open Roon Remote, press “Use another Roon Server”, and connect to the new database
  • Restore the Backup

If you are still having difficulty with Roon, then right-click to look at the Properties of the Roon.exe executable itself. Check the Compatibility tab.

Please let us know if this helps.
