Hello @dannykitfisher,
Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.
Could you please clarify where your Roon Server is hosted — is it running on the same Mac you’re using, or do you have a separate device on your local network, such as a ROCK or Nucleus?
Additionally, have you recently made any changes to your firewall or network settings on the Mac? Was there a recent system update that may have affected connectivity?
Looking forward to your response so we can assist further.
Hi, Thank you for the reply..yes I’m using a Nucleus One and haven’t made any changes to firewall or network settings. I’m not aware of any system updates that could have affected connectivity, but I stream music nearly all the time and had just decided to add some music to a local folder when I discovered that I couldn’t access it. So it could have been the most recent Sequoia update perhaps?
Hello @dannykitfisher,
Thank you for the update.
I stream music nearly all the time
Just to confirm — are you still able to connect to the Nucleus through the Roon app and play music as usual?
I decided to add some music to a local folder when I discovered that I couldn’t access it
Could you please clarify — are you referring to a local folder on your Mac that is added to the Nucleus as a network share, or a local folder on the Nucleus itself?
Would you be able to share a screenshot of your Roon → Settings → Storage screen? That would help us better understand how the storage is currently configured.
Hi, Yes, I’m able to access the Nucleus through the Roon app, all working just fine.
The folder was a local one on my macbook, that has now disappeared from the Roon app (see screenshot), and I now cant find a way to add the folder back in.
Thanks!
Hello, @dannykitfisher,
We have a brief guide to assist you in adding a Mac folder to your Nucleus network storage.
Please let us know if you encounter any problems while following this guide.
Hi, I did try to use this guide before I contacted you..that’s why I shared the initial screenshot from my system preferences page (I’ve attached it here). The + button isn’t there to allow me to add a new folder, so I’m a bit puzzled as to how to recreate a shared folder? Hope that makes sense.. ![]()
Hello @dannykitfisher,
Thank you for the update.
From your initial post, it’s unclear where exactly the issue lies:
If a core macOS function (like file sharing or folder permission control) is no longer behaving as expected — for example, if you’re missing the + button to add folders for sharing — we would recommend reaching out to Apple Support for assistance, as this may fall outside the scope of what Roon can control.
That said, I found a related discussion on Apple Support Communities, where several users reported a similar issue. A few workarounds are offered there, including terminal commands and adjusting permissions manually.
If none of the above works, and you’re unable to restore sharing functionality at the OS level, we strongly suggest checking in with Apple Support for guidance, as this may be a bug introduced with the Sequoia update.
We’re still happy to help on anything directly related to Roon — feel free to keep us updated!
Hi, apologies if I was unclear…thanks for all your help. I think this is a macOS related issue, I just thought that you may have come across the issue with other Roon users, and be able to offer a steer. I’ll contact Apple Support as the other community suggestions haven’t worked so far..thanks anyhow
Hello @dannykitfisher,
I just tested the same on my end, and I have the “+” icon in the Sharing section. Recently, we have not received any complaints about such behavior.
I notice that in @dannykitfisher ’s screenshot the upper corners of the box are rounded as they should, while the lower corners are rectangular. This looks like the lower part of the box may be cut off, and hence the bar where the + button should be located might be cut off, too:
While in @vadim ‘s screenshot, the lower corners are rounded, too:
Might be a difference of macOS version, but might also be that it’s possible that Danny can vertically resize the window or scroll the box with the mouse/touchpad. Or the window has some kind of issue.
