Issue with Nucleus One database migration from Mac mini (ref#AI55SO)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I have been running Roon on my Mac mini (MacOS 26.2) for a few years and decided to buy the Nucleus One. I have a lifetime license. I open the Nucleus, install a 4 Tb ssd and follow the quick start guide. Everything looks good and is playing but then I read the more detailed guide on line and see that I was suppose to migrate the database. The account on my mini is already deauthorized. What do I do now? Did the database migrate automatically during setup? I guess I could brute force it by resetting the Nucleus factory settings, reauthorize the mini and start over with set up again. Is there a simpler way to do this?

Tell us about your home network

· I have an Edge-4 Ubiquiti router and a Ubiquiti WiFi 6 WAP. I don’t think any of this matters for my problem tho.

You can reauthorize your MacMini and backup the Roon database to a USB drive. Then, attach the USB drive to your Nucleus and reauthorize the Nucleus and do a restore. When you authorize one server, you will unauthorize the other one.

You should do this sooner rather than later because anything you save to your Nucleus is going to be lost when you restore your Roon database from the MacMini to the Nucleus.

That seems a lot simpler. I will give it a shot. Thanks

Hey @Paul_Colombo,

Thanks for writing in! @Jim_F is correct with the above reply, especially around the point of doing it sooner rather than later, as it does overwrite any work you’ve done within your Nuleus up until the backup restore takes place.

Here’s more info as well:

Let us know how it goes and if you have any questions along the way. :raising_hands:

Thank you! Everything is migrated, up and running. The only odd thing is the remotes still gives me the option to pick between the Nucleus One or my mini Mac. And this is after I deleted Roon/roon server from the mini Mac and reinstalled it. When I trashed Roon, I also went into the Library and deleted the Roon folders there before I reinstalled it. Any suggestions?

No, except that the Roon Labs servers keep track of your subscription and which of your servers it is assigned to. Maybe that is why you still see it.

If you don’t have some other use for the Mac Mini, I would keep it connected and current as a backup Roon server. It’s a simple matter to switch back and forth.

Thanks, I will. It is my main computer.
