Issue with Roon album repeat feature when using 'play from here' (ref#RF1EF0)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· How do you get all tracks of an entire album to repeat if you start with 'play from here'?

Hi, this sounds simple, but I just can't get it to work. I'm used to using iTunes where, if you have 'album repeat' switched on, you can start from any track in an album and iTunes will play to the end of the album then continue from the first track of the album and repeat all tracks of the entire album continually thereafter.

In Roon however, if I select an album track using 'play from here' and use the repeat function, all I get is a repeat of the album tracks remaining between 'play from here' and the end of the album - it never plays the tracks from the start of the album to the 'play from here track'.

Am I missing something and is there actually a way to do what I want to in Roon?

PS it might help if I explain I often have music on when working at my PC, and I might want to listen to the same album on repeat for several evenings.

As listening time is often limited, I prefer to start on my favourite track when I first select the album.

Alternatively, Roon Radio might be playing and I want to start listening to that particular track as a start to listening to the rest of the album it came from...so I'd find that album in my library and start with the track Roon Radio was playing.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey @Felix1,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your question! To answer you directly - there isn’t a direct button you can press to achieve this. There is a pretty simple way to set it up, though!

The reason you’re seeing this is how Roon builds the queue. When you use “Play from here,” Roon only loads that track through the end of the album into the queue, the earlier tracks aren’t added at all, so repeat just loops what’s actually in the queue.

The best way to get the full-album loop you want, the trick is to queue the entire album first, then jump to your starting track:

  1. Start playback of the whole album normally (click Play on the album, not "Play from here"). This loads all tracks into the queue.
  2. Turn on Repeat (click the repeat icon until it shows repeat-all).
  3. Then skip or jump to your favourite track, either hit next/previous, or open the Queue and select ‘play from here’ with the track you want.
Because the complete album is now in the queue, repeat-all will play to the end, wrap around to track 1, and continue looping the whole album indefinitely.

That’s just the way I’d consider doing it, but I’ll also let others from the community chime in, incase there’s an even easier way to achieve what you’re after.

Happy listening! :raising_hands:

Hi, and thanks so much for the suggestion - that seems like a really good solution - it’s been so annoying not being able to work it out but I just didn’t think to try doing what you’ve suggested!
