Describe the issue

Hi. I am coming back to Roon, so I downloaded the software. When trying to install I get the message to "quit all instances of RoonServer before continuing...", but I don't have any Roon installed yet. How can I solve this issue?
Thank you

Describe your network setup

PC running Windows 11 w/ a i5 3rd generation core, with 64 gb ram

If you click on the little up carot on the right side of your taskbar, like the one I’ve circled below (mind is facing down since my task bar is on top).

asdf

This is the notification area, see if you see a little Roon Icon there. If so, right click it and then select

  1. Uncheck start at login
  2. Quit.

That should exit you out of RoonServer (which is not the same as the graphical Roon Control software).

Hey @dpolido,

Good to see you on the community again, and welcome back to Roon!

I believe @Rugby is correct in their statement above, it’s likely that there’s an instance of Roon Server running on your Windows that you’ll need to quit first.

Let me know if the above helps!

Nobody explained why.

Since you left Roon (I suppose), Roon changed the install routine on Apple and Windows computers. When you download and install Roon on those computers, you are actually installing two Roon programs. One is the Roon server and one is the Roon remote/client.

As part of the install process, you can tell the Roon server program to automatically “Launch at startup” of your computer. So, whether you know it or not, you now have two Roon servers running if you use some other Roon server device. Of course, knowing this, you can tell Roon server not to launch if you don’t need it.

Hi, all and thank you for your help. However, I cannot even install roon. As I said, I downloaded the Roon Installer.exe but at the moment I double clic to install, I got a small window stating : “quit all instances of RoonServer before continuing…”, and I have no means to install it. I run all files on my PC to check if there was any Roon related stuff but there’s nothing. I tried the solution given by @Rugby but nothing shows up. I’ll try again and will let you have the outcome.

Sounds good @dpolido!

You may also be able to check if Roon Server is running by:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find Roon Server:
  • Scroll through the list to find RoonServer.
  • Right-click on RoonServer and choose Stop.

Let us know if this helps!
