Roon nucleus seems to be power up, lights on back and Ethernet lights flashing. But no remotes can connect anymore and does not respond by going directly to web address. Has work for marvel years flawlessly.

Describe your network setup

Roon Ethernet to switch, switch to main switch to router to internet. All other network attached devices work as expected.

I believe I have hit the same issue. Was getting a “waiting for Roon Server” circle while streaming (oddly, indicated speed within Roon was between 7x and 10x)…and that was preceding drop outs (Qobuz/Tidal slow loading)

First I prioritised the server, then when issues continued, I reset the network and lastly refreshed Roon in the Antipodes streamer (Roon built in)…and that was the last I have seen of Roon today.

edit - And a couple of hours later, everything came right again for no obvious reason whatsoever.

Hello tech support, looking forward to you input. Additional information- the unit will not boot up into bios on startup unless I remove the M2 card. Otherwise it is a blank screen. Still can get it to go no further.

Help please.

How old is the Nucleus ?
if you plug a monitor in and restart you see nothing on the screen ? not even a welcome message ?

That sound hardware BUT have you tried a “full restart”

Turn everything off and unplug , network included , now start each component in turn allowing each item to fully start before moving to the next item

Worth a try , it sounds awfully “networky” to me.

If I leave the m2 card in nothing happens when you start up other than lights on back (Ethernet and power) go on. If I remove the M2 card I can get to bios and it trys to boot off network not local ssd.

Roon is 2-3 years old

that sounds like the M.2 card has had it , you will be out of guarantee but its a simple job to replace and reload ROCK to get you going then request support upgrade the OS to Nucleus

You only need a small card 256 , if you can’t find 128

Hey @shadpeterson,

Based on your report, I believe @Mike_O_Neill is correct in noting that your M.2 SSD has likely failed. You can manually replace the SSD and have Roon flash the NucleusOS to the device, I’ll share the specific steps below:

Note that you’ll need a USB drive for this process that you can connect to a computer, and then the Nucleus.

The first thing you’ll want to do is purchase a new SSD. Here is a link to one SSD option we recommend to many users:

And here is a short video on how to replace the SSD on your device: Nucleus SSD replacement.mp4

After that, you’ll need to format the SSD. We have a good help article you can find here for next steps. Start from step #3 :

Essentially, you’ll be flashing the ROCK OS to a USB drive, and using it to boot and format the new SSD in your Nucleus.

Once you’ve successfully flashed ROCK onto the new SSD, keep your Nucleus online and let me know. From there, we can update you to the Nucleus OS on our end. :+1:

I’ll be on standby for any questions you have in the meantime!

I tried a new card and the same thing happened will not boot up to a bios screen. I got it to work once with the original m2 card inserted at a 45 degree angle. Everything worked steamed music the whole bit, but it did not last.

Any room tech support out there?

I found a nuc7i7dnb board on eBay and have that coming to swap out the board and use all my existing cards, memory and ssd drive with music library on it to see if that works.

Thank you Benjamin. The issue seems to be that regardless of m2ssd Card inserted nothing happens other than power lights and Ethernet lights. Will not poor up to even bios, no keyboard lights nothing on monitor. I take out the M2Sssd card and the keyboard will light up, I can get into bios and obviously I can see things in the monitor. It’s almost like there is a short or something with the ssd card installed.

Once I was able to get it to load normally with the card only partially in, but obviously that’s not a workable solution.

Very strange.

But because it will not boot up with an SSD card installed I can not use a flash drive to install ROCK.

@shadpeterson from the symptoms you are describing it seems you need to RMA your nucleus. Work through this typeform and you will be able to submit an RMA.
